🐰🐣🐥 We Are Not Easter Gifts — We Are a Commitment 🐰🐣🐥
Rabbits, chicks, and ducklings may look cute in an Easter basket, but they are not temporary pets. They are living beings that require care, time, and commitment for years—rabbits can live 10+ years, and ducks and chickens 5–10+ years.
Too often, once the “cute” phase passes, these animals are abandoned. Sadly, they do not survive on their own. Domestic rabbits lack survival skills and are often killed by predators, starve, or are hit by cars. Chicks and ducklings, especially when separated from their mothers, cannot regulate their temperature, forage for food, or protect themselves—many die within days.
💔 It’s estimated that 80–95% of these animals do not survive their first year after being given as holiday pets.
⚠️ The risks of abandonment include:
• Predation (foxes, hawks, stray cats/dogs)
• Starvation and exposure
• Disease spread to native wildlife
• Neglect once they outgrow the “cute” stage
If you are not prepared for a long-term commitment, please consider stuffed animals instead of live pets this Easter. You can always visit a petting zoo if you want your children to interact with a live animal.
If you already have one and cannot keep them, please seek out a reputable rescue or carefully rehome. Be cautious—these animals can be at risk if placed in the wrong hands.
🐾 The best choice? Adopt responsibly and commit for life.
