Happy Saturday! Today, we'd like to introduce you to Officer Acosta and our boy, Howie!

Inspired by the Paws & Protectors collaboration with Cooper City BSO, Broward County Animal Care has extended this heartwarming endeavor of pairing our adoptable pets with the people behind the badge at the Fort Lauderdale Police Department!

Officer Luis Acosta of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department is a member of the departments Animal Crimes Unit. Through the Animal Crimes Unit, Officer Acosta investigates cruelty complaints and also responds to calls involving animals in distress within the city. Officer Acosta is a complete animal lover and a huge fan of big dogs with a very special soft spot for the Staffies!

American Staffordshire Terrier Mix | 55lbs

Howie is currently our shelter's longest staying resident, at over 7 months at the shelter. Howie is a complete love bug; so sweet, friendly and affectionate! Howie loves giving all the kisses, and is quite the smart boy, knowing commands such as sit and paw. Howie may not have the best kennel presence, but we're hoping his person sees this post and decides on giving Howie a chance at a new forever home!

🔔🐱 Reminder Trappers!

Due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday, Broward County Animal Care will not be accepting ANY healthy, uninjured community cats for Return to Field (RTF) Saturday, September 5th through Monday, September 7th.

We will not be accepting ANY healthy, uninjured community cats for TNR services on Sunday, September 6th and Monday, September 7th.

We will resume accepting community cats for spay/neuter services through the RTF and TNR programs on Tuesday, September 8th.

For any questions regarding community/feral cats, please email us at [email protected] or visit Broward.org/Animal.

Happy Friday! Today, we'd like to introduce you to Officer Figueras and our shelter cutie, Della!

Officer Olianny Figueras, a dedicated animal lover and advocate, has been making a difference in the Fort Lauderdale community through her work in the departments Animal Crimes Unit. When she's not investigating cruelty and ensuring pets are treated humanely and being properly cared for, Officer Figueras opens her heart and home by fostering, even adopting her baby girl, Bella, from Animal Care!

We invite you to donate comfort! 🧺 WE NEED YOUR LINENS! 🐾

Our pets spend their days waiting—for a family, a second chance, a place to call home. Until that day comes, something as simple as a clean, soft comforter or sheet can make their kennel feel a little more comfortable.

We’re asking our community to help us keep our laundry shelves stocked. Clean, gently used comforters and sheets can provide soft places to rest and a little extra comfort for dogs and cats in our care.

Have some linens you no longer need? Donate them to the shelter and turn something sitting in your closet into comfort for a pet who needs it. ❤️

🐾100+ days is far too long to wait for a forever home.

💙 Meet Smoke (A2475947), a handsome American Staffordshire Terrier who has spent more than 100 days at Broward County Animal Care.

Smoke recently stepped into the spotlight with Director Doug Brightwell and WPLG Local 10 Andrew to remind viewers that long-stay dogs like Smoke are still waiting for their people.

Smoke has spent enough time behind kennel doors. Now, he needs someone to see the incredible dog waiting beyond the shelter.

A good Samaritan, a microchip and a happy reunion. ❤️🐾 When an injured dog was turned in to Broward County Animal Care, the shelter’s veterinary team stepped in to provide care—and a microchip helped connect the dots. Hear from the lead veterinarian about how this little dog went from injured and alone to safely back where he belongs. It’s a feel-good reminder that microchips and pet registration can make all the difference when the unexpected happens.
