Ciar is a male cat who urgently needs transfer placement or an appropriate working cat placement by the end-of-day on September 26. Ciar is struggling significantly with the shelter environment and is considered under socialized. He is not a candidate for foster placement at this time.
Ciar consistently seeks distance from people and spends much of his time hiding under blankets, in cubbies, or alongside other cats. When people approach too closely, he may become tense, flatten his ears, hiss, or give a low growl. Staff have appropriately respected these warnings and have generally avoided attempting physical handling or petting. No swatting was reported in the staff observations provided for Ciar.
There have also been some encouraging moments. More recently, Ciar was observed sitting upright in a partially covered cubby and allowed staff to place his food tray near him without hissing or becoming as tense as he had previously. He then ate his wet food while staff remained in the room cleaning. A volunteer also reported that he accepted Churu treats without swatting.
Ciar has repeatedly been observed huddling, resting, and hiding alongside other cats, suggesting that he may take comfort from feline companionship even though he remains extremely wary of people.
The shelter environment is not allowing Ciar to make sufficient progress, and his continued stress and poor quality of life have resulted in a critical decision of end-of-day placement by 9/29/26 to give adequate time to coordinate his safe exit.
Ciar may be best suited for an experienced rescue group or a properly managed working/barn cat placement where he can have a safe, secure environment, appropriate acclimation, and the ability to interact with people on his own terms without being pressured for affection.
Medically speaking, Ciar is fully vetted and was found to be apparently healthy on intake. Since then, he has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated for rabies and given the FVRCP vaccine. He also received flea/tick prevention. Due to the level of stress he experiences while kenneled, Gabapentin was added to help manage his anxiety.
Please help us find Ciar an appropriate placement where this frightened, undersocialized cat can decompress outside of the stressful shelter environment.
