There's something special about cooking over fire.
Our Dutch oven cooking experiences combine traditional techniques, rich flavors, and a little bit of history. From hearty classics to creative modern dishes or Mediterranean inspired treats, every meal is prepared with care and cooked the way generations before us enjoyed it.

Recipe development day at Anvil & Apron.

One of the things we love most about cooking in Far West Texas is working with ingredients grown by our friends and neighbors.

This zucchini was grown locally in Alpine, Texas by a friend and became the inspiration for a farm-to-table side dish: a zucchini boat filled with smoked chicken, sage, and herb stuffing.

We’re always experimenting with seasonal ingredients and new menu ideas for future dinners and catered events. Not every recipe makes the final menu, but every great dish starts somewhere.

Would you order this at a farm-to-table dinner?

Welp- Far West Texas weather never does anything halfway.

This storm rolling in on the horizon is a reminder that monsoon season is just around the corner and with the rain comes a whole new set of challenges for horses and ranch life.

A few simple hoof-care reminders during wet weather:

• Pick hooves daily to remove mud, rocks, and packed debris.
• Watch for thrush—wet conditions can create the perfect environment for infection.
• Keep standing areas as dry as possible, especially around water troughs and gates.
• Maintain regular trims; overgrown hooves trap moisture and mud more easily.
• Check for tenderness or odor after heavy rains and call your farrier or vet if something seems off.

Out here, the weather shapes everything we do. Stay safe, enjoy the rain, and give those horses a little extra attention this season.

Wow! The Alpine, Texas Farmers Market made it into AAA's Online magazine AND they list Anvil and Apron as a "MUST TRY" along with Silver Wings Mobile Bar & Events!

They open the article with "Here are nine of the best markets to tap into that agricultural bounty." and Alpine's in #3!

They also namecheck the wonderful Togley's Treats and the McDonald Observatory.

We are so proud to be a part of the wonderful community of vendors!

------

"The Off The Rails Band serenades shoppers perusing this compact assortment of vendors at the Alpine Visitor Center. Anywhere from 15 to 20 merchants sell pottery, produce, native plants, sauces, and baked goods, including all-natural doggy delicacies from Togley’s Treats. Special programs include fruit- and vegetable-carving sessions, wildlife weekends, and dark-sky education courtesy of McDonald Observatory.

Must try: Lemonade from Silver Wings and fluffy focaccia from Anvil and Apron, which sometimes fires up a Dutch oven for cooking demos. "

Tomato focaccia is a real treat—The roasted tomatoes bring a little sweetness and tang, and every bite’s got that perfect balance of chew and crunch.

It’s the kind of bread that doesn't need much—just a quiet moment, which is why it's long been a favorite of hikers and campers!

Our kid's friends call it "the fluffy pizza bread" and it makes a perfect lunch paired with salad!

Grab it, and other items tomorrow at the Alpine, Texas Farmers Market
