☀️🐾 HOT WEATHER CAN BE DANGEROUS FOR OUR FUR BABIES! 🐾☀️
As temperatures are so high, so does the risk of heat stroke in our pets. Dogs can overheat quickly, especially short-nosed breeds like French Bulldogs, Bulldogs, Pugs, and other brachycephalic breeds.
🚨 Know the warning signs:
• Excessive or rapid breathing/panting
• Excessive drooling
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Rapid heart rate
• Weakness, loss of coordination, or confusion
• Seizures or unconsciousness
• Abnormally high body temperature
💚 If you suspect heat stroke:
➡️ Contact your veterinarian or emergency veterinary hospital immediately. Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency, even if your pet seems to improve.
➡️ Move your pet to a cool environment immediately.
➡️ Wet the armpits and groin with room-temperature or cool water.
➡️ Provide airflow with a fan or air conditioning.
➡️ Offer small sips of water ONLY if your pet is conscious and responsive.
🚫 DO NOT:
❌ Use ice-cold water or aggressively cool your pet
❌ Wrap your pet in a wet towel
❌ Force water into their mouth
❌ Put a collar or slip lead on an overheated pet if it may interfere with breathing
🐶❤️ Prevention is the best protection! Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day, never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, and make sure they always have access to shade and fresh water.
