🐾❤️ Happy One-Year Gotcha Day, Charlie! ❤️🐾

One year ago, a terrified little four-month-old puppy came into my life. Today, I can’t imagine my world without him. 🥹

Charlie came to me as a rescue from a backyard breeder in Charlotte who was desperately looking for someone to take him due to a family emergency that required them to leave the state.

When I picked Charlie up, he was completely shut down by fear. He was so terrified that he suffered from explosive diarrhea in his kennel. If you attempted to touch him, he would scream, panic, and try to bite. This little guy had absolutely no idea how to trust a human.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that Charlie wasn’t the only one who needed saving.

Just weeks earlier, I had lost Duke, my heart dog. My sweet pittie rescue who had been by my side for nearly 15 years. Losing him left a hole in my heart that I wasn’t sure would ever heal.

And then came Charlie. ❤️

My original plan was to rehabilitate him, build his confidence, and find him a wonderful forever home.

But Charlie had other plans. He chose me.

Little by little, his personality began to emerge. The fear started disappearing. He learned to trust, to play, to be silly, and most importantly, to just be a happy dog.

Fast-forward one year, and Charlie is genuinely one of the HAPPIEST, funniest, most entertaining dogs I have ever met in my 25 years of working with canines!

All I have to do is bring him into our training room, and he starts bouncing around like a kangaroo, absolutely overflowing with happiness. 😂 His joy is contagious. You simply cannot watch this dog without smiling.

And somewhere along the way, while I was helping Charlie heal from his past, he was quietly helping me heal from mine.

I truly believe God places certain souls in our lives exactly when we need them most.

Charlie didn’t replace Duke. No dog ever could.

But he reminded me that even after heartbreaking loss, there’s still room in our hearts for another beautiful love story.

I thought I was rescuing Charlie. Turns out, we rescued each other. 🥹❤️

Happy Gotcha Day, my sweet, goofy boy. Here’s to many more years of kangaroo jumps, laughter, and unconditional love!

🐩 A HUGE shoutout to our absolute favorite groomer, Jimena at Braver Hund Dog Village, for making Charlie look so handsome today! You always do an amazing job!

FYI …

To all the addicts waiting for your fill by your dealer in the Scrubs parking lot behind McDonald’s?

They will say they are Christian’s and will allow you to do your bidding.

Regardless of the religion, your drugs you are providing to our children, in that parking lot, is not okay.

I am former law enforcement and will be highly watching this area, near my kennel.

My kennel area is a NO DRUG TOLERANCE ZONE.

🧡 🐾 K-9 Certification is important in K-9 Search & Rescue because it provides an objective way to demonstrate that a team has been trained, tested, and can perform safely and effectively in a real search environment.

For a SAR organization, certification can demonstrate:

💥 Proven Competency: The K-9 and handler have been evaluated on specific skills rather than simply saying they are trained.
💥 Reliability: Search teams need to produce dependable results under difficult conditions, including darkness, weather, terrain, contamination, and distractions.
💥 Standardization: Certification gives agencies a common benchmark for what a qualified team should be able to do.
💥 Safety: Properly trained teams understand search procedures, navigation, communications, hazards, and how to work alongside other responders.
💥 Accountability: An outside evaluator or recognized certifying organization provides documentation that the team met established criteria.
💥 Interoperability: Certified teams from different organizations can work together more effectively because they have been evaluated against recognized standards.
💥 Public confidence: Families and emergency agencies can have greater confidence that the team responding to a missing-person incident has demonstrated its capabilities.
💥 Continued training: Certification often requires teams to maintain skills and continue developing rather than treating training as a one-time accomplishment.
