🐾 The Myth, the Legend, and the "Bentley Mark!" 🐾
I always get asked if this girl is a mix, but she is 100% purebred Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler)! People are usually surprised because of her athletic, working-line build, but her coat actually tells the whole history of her breed. 🇦🇺🤠
Heelers were engineered in the 19th century by Australian stockmen who needed an indestructible herding dog. They crossed early herding collies with:
1️⃣ Native Dingoes for incredible stamina and heat tolerance.
2️⃣ Dalmatians (which is why ACD puppies are actually born pure white!).
3️⃣ Black and Tan Kelpies for that sharp, rich tan trim on their legs and face.
If you look closely at her forehead, she has a perfect white streak. That is called a "Bentley Mark"! Legend says virtually all purebred heelers carry this mark, tracing all the way back to a foundational stud dog named Tom Bentley’s dog in the 1800s.
Plus, those dark patches over her eyes act like a "double mask"—originally prized by stockmen to block out the blinding sun glare while working cattle. She’s not a mix, just a walking piece of history! ❤️
