Today I had the opportunity to visit Project Gallantly Forward and learn more about the incredible work they are doing to support our nation’s Veterans and their families.

One thing that really stood out to me is that eligible Veterans and their families can stay at their retreat facilities for up to one week at no cost while participating in their programs and services. Their mission focuses on healing, connection, and helping Veterans and their loved ones rediscover hope, purpose, and community.

If you are a Veteran, or know a Veteran and family who may benefit from this opportunity, I encourage you to learn more:

Thank you to the Project Gallantly Forward team for the warm welcome and for the important work you are doing to serve those who have served and the families who stand beside them. 🇺🇸❤️

We just received a text from Catoosa County Animal Control! This is Max, his owner just left for deployment and had nobody willing to take his extra special boy, Max!

Without any options he had no choice but to surrender Max to the shelter. Max is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and reported to be good with dogs, cats and kids!

Can you help heal Max's broken heart? 💔 He don't understand what he did wrong! He was such a good boy! Now he's alone and confused and depending on you to save his life!

Foster application will be linked in the comments!

We are honored to spotlight Big’s Paws with a Purpose Portraits and the incredible work of Crystal McDaniel.
Inspired by her beloved service dog, Mister Big, Crystal creates custom fine art portraits that celebrate the animals who change our lives. From service dogs and therapy animals to beloved family pets, each piece is thoughtfully designed to capture not only the image of the animal, but the love, healing, loyalty, and connection they represent.

What makes Big’s Paws with a Purpose Portraits especially meaningful is the mission behind the artwork. A portion of proceeds supports organizations helping Veterans and individuals living with PTS, including Warrior Freedom Service Dogs and Fortunate Sons.

Through advocacy and education, Big’s Paws also works to raise awareness surrounding invisible disabilities, service dog etiquette, ADA awareness, and the powerful role animals can play in emotional healing and recovery.

At Warrior Freedom Service Dogs, we know that dogs are far more than companions. They are partners in healing, sources of comfort, and life-changing teammates for the Veterans we serve. Crystal’s mission beautifully reflects those same values.

Whether honoring a service dog, a beloved rescue, or a cherished companion who has crossed the rainbow bridge, Big’s Paws with a Purpose creates artwork that keeps their memory and spirit alive for generations.
Because they are never “just pets.”

They are family.
They are healing.
They are loyalty.
They are unconditional love.

Thank you, Crystal, for using your talents to honor the human-animal bond while supporting Veterans and raising awareness for those living with invisible disabilities.

A Second Chance, A Lasting Impact

Not every dog that enters a service dog program ultimately becomes a service dog. In fact, nationally, only about 1 in 3 dogs evaluated for service work successfully complete training and placement. While that may sound disappointing, it doesn’t mean those dogs can’t go on to change lives in other meaningful ways.

A few years ago, Rich Eberly of the American Legion adopted Biscuit after he did not complete Warrior Freedom Service Dogs’ service dog program. Today, Biscuit continues to serve his family as a emotional support dog, bringing comfort, companionship, and smiles wherever he goes.

At Warrior Freedom Service Dogs, our goal is always to find the right path for every dog. Some become highly skilled service dogs for Veterans living with PTS and TBI. Others, like Biscuit, find a different purpose that is just as valuable.

This photo captures Rich and Biscuit during today’s America 250 celebration, a reminder that success doesn’t always look the way we originally planned. Sometimes a different path leads to an equally meaningful destination.

Thank you, Rich, for giving Biscuit a wonderful home and an opportunity to continue making a difference in the lives of others. 🇺🇸🐾

🎓🐾 Congratulations to Our Spring 2026 Graduates! 🐾🎓

Today we celebrate four incredible Veteran and Service Dog teams who have successfully completed the Warrior Freedom Service Dogs training program.

Congratulations to:

🇺🇸 Bruce Forman & Scooter
🇺🇸 Devin Hanson & Titan
🇺🇸 Jeremy Sorenson & Trooper
🇺🇸 Denise Carlton & Xena

Over the past several months, these teams have dedicated themselves to training, building trust, strengthening their bond, and preparing for the journey ahead. Graduation is not the end of the journey — it is the beginning of a new chapter filled with greater independence, confidence, and freedom.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Board Chair Susan Millican and board members Jayne Griffin and Dwight Seek for joining us to celebrate this special milestone. Your leadership, support, and commitment to our mission help make days like this possible.

We are honored to welcome these teams into our growing family of graduates and are grateful to everyone who helped make their success possible — our trainers, fosters, volunteers, donors, board members, and supporters.

Please join us in congratulating these outstanding Veteran and Service Dog teams as they begin this next chapter together.
