🌕🌾 Look Up — The Harvest Moon Is Coming

If you’ve looked up this week, you’ve probably noticed it already—the Moon is getting BIG, bright, and absolutely beautiful.

This weekend brings us the magnificent Full Harvest Moon, reaching peak illumination on Saturday, September 26 at 12:49 P.M. EDT. And you don’t have to wait until Saturday night to enjoy it. The Moon will appear full for several nights around its peak, so start looking up Friday evening if the skies are clear.

The Harvest Moon is the full moon that falls closest to the autumn equinox, and this year it arrives just days after the official beginning of fall. Around the equinox, the Moon’s path causes successive moonrises to occur relatively close together in time—historically providing extra evening light during the harvest season. 🌾

And here we are in the Year of the Horse, entering a new season.

The days are growing shorter. The fields are changing. The air is cooling. And after a year centered around movement, independence, and forward momentum, perhaps the Harvest Moon is our reminder to appreciate what the journey has already given us.

There is still plenty of road ahead—but there’s something special about stopping for a moment, standing quietly beside your horse, and looking up. 🐎✨

Friday and Saturday night, don’t forget to look east after sunset. And keep an eye out for Saturn shining nearby. 🪐 NASA says faint Neptune will be in the neighborhood too, although you’ll need binoculars or a telescope to see it.

🍂 Hello, September.

There’s something beautifully subtle about September.

The days begin to grow a little shorter. The evenings arrive a little earlier. The light turns softer and more golden, mornings feel cooler, and the first hints of autumn quietly begin to appear.

It’s not quite time to say goodbye to summer. September doesn’t rush the change—it eases us into it.

And perhaps there’s something to learn from that as we move through the Year of the Horse. We’ve spent much of this year focused on momentum, freedom, and moving forward. Now, as we enter the final stretch, September reminds us that forward doesn’t always have to mean faster.

Sometimes it means settling into your stride. Taking the long way back to the barn. Enjoying the last warm afternoons. Noticing the changing fields, the first fall flowers, and that unmistakable golden September light.

On July 29, look to the southeastern sky after sunset as the Full Buck Moon makes its appearance. Named for the season when bucks regrow their antlers, stronger and more impressive each year—the Buck Moon is a reminder that growth doesn't happen overnight. We hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day weekend! Thank you to everyone who took the time to read and share our article celebrating the 250-year history of horses in America.
