Of all the things we experience in animal rescue, nothing means more than knowing a life we helped save is now surrounded by love.

Lightning was one of the dogs rescued from the Ellis County hoarding case. Today, he’s Percy, and he has a family who loves him beyond words.

We received this beautiful letter, and it touched our hearts more than his mom could ever know.

========================================

Dear Todd,

I have landed in my forever home. I wanted to let you know that I am safe and happy, so my new mom said she’d help me write you. Everything is VERY different, and sometimes I’m a little nervous, but mostly I’m having a lot of fun getting to know my new family and going for walks in the neighborhood and along the river path. I also have a new name, it’s Percy, short for Percival, like the knight (whatever that is!).

I have a new older brother, he’s an 8 yr. old german shepherd, he helps me know that I’m safe and he also likes to play with me! I have my own bed and crate, but at night I love to curl up in the big bed with my new parents.

Thank you so, so much for everything you, and the team that worked with you, did for me. My mom also says to tell you that she is so grateful that people like you all exist and that your actions sent me on my journey to her and my new dad. She can’t imagine how much work and coordination went into my rescue.

I’m sending a photo of me and my new brother (ignore the tag that says “I’m deaf,” the collar belonged to their dog, Tess, who passed in 2019, and they said she would be happy that I could borrow it until I got my own). And then also a photo of me on my first day on the porch—every morning we sit on the porch to do “squirrel watching” while my parents drink coffee. I want coffee too, but they keep telling me it’s not good for young pups. And one more of me smiling—just because I’m such a handsome pup.

I hope the rest of the dogs that were rescued with me are also finding their families.

Thank you for changing my life.

Percy (aka Lightning)

A special thank you to Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary for helping make Percy’s happy ending possible by transporting him to his forever family. We are so grateful for partners who go the extra mile to give these animals the lives they deserve.

And speaking of happy endings, we have 9 more dogs heading to Colorado later this week! We’re still $950 short of covering their transportation costs.

Every dollar brings these dogs one step closer to their next chapter. If you’ve ever wondered how you can be part of saving a life, this is one of those opportunities.

Help us get them there.

9 DOGS. 1,000 MILES. 9 CHANCES AT A BETTER LIFE.

These faces are getting ready for something pretty incredible.

They’re leaving Texas and heading to Colorado for a fresh start!

For some, this journey represents a chance to leave shelter life behind. For others, it’s an opportunity to find the family they’ve been waiting for.

But there’s one final hurdle between these dogs and their next chapter.

We need to raise $2,000 to get them there.

Each dog (puppies count as 1) costs $250 to transport, and with eight dogs making the journey, we’re asking our community to help us get every single one of them on that road.

Here’s what your donation can do:

* $25 covers 10% of one dog’s journey.
* $50 gets one dog 20% closer.
* $125 funds half of a dog’s transport.
* $250 sponsors one dog’s entire journey.

At Ferris Animal Services, we believe saving lives means doing more than providing a safe place to stay. It means finding opportunities beyond our shelter walls, building partnerships, and doing everything we can to give animals a future.

And sometimes, that future is waiting a thousand miles away.

Nine dogs leaving our shelter means nine lives moving forward. It also means nine opportunities to open our doors to the next animals who need us.

We have the dogs. We have the opportunity. We have the destination.

Now we just need your help getting them there.

Please consider sponsoring a seat on this lifesaving journey. Whether it’s $5 or $250, every donation brings us closer to sending all eight dogs toward their next chapter.

Fundraising Goal: $2,000

If you can’t donate, sharing this post can make just as much of a difference.

Let’s send nine Texas dogs off to Colorado with an entire community cheering them on.

THIS is what team work is supposed to look like.

Back in May, when Ferris Animal Services responded to a devastating animal hoarding case in Ellis county, we were faced with an overwhelming number of dogs who desperately needed help.

We couldn’t do it alone.

Saving Hope Animal Rescue was one of the organizations that stepped up in a big way, taking in a good number of dogs and giving them the opportunity for a life far removed from the deplorable conditions they had endured.

One of those dogs was Luna, now known as Lilibet.

Look at her today.

She’s traveling across the country, visiting new places, posing for pictures, and experiencing a world that once seemed unimaginable.

From surviving a hoarding situation to enjoying road trips with her forever family.

That’s not just a happy ending. That’s what all this work is for.

Saving Hope Rescue has always been a critical partner to Ferris Animal Services. When we have animals who need more than our tiny shelter can provide, they’ve consistently been a source of compassion, support, and opportunity.

Partnerships like theirs are the reason small shelters like ours can take on challenges that would otherwise seem impossible.

But here’s something we wish more people understood.

Rescuing these animals is only the beginning. Every dog taken into rescue represents veterinary expenses, vaccinations, spay and neuter procedures, food, transportation, and sometimes months of rehabilitation before they’re ready for adoption.

Organizations like Saving Hope don’t just save lives. They invest in giving those lives a future.

Today, we’re asking our community to return some of the kindness Saving Hope has shown Ferris.

If you have a few dollars to spare, please consider making a donation directly to Saving Hope Animal Rescue. Every contribution helps them continue answering the calls that so many animals depend on.

And if you can’t donate, sharing this post and supporting their mission matters too.

To everyone at Saving Hope, thank you. Thank you for believing in the dogs others might overlook, for answering when we needed help, and for being the kind of rescue partner every municipal shelter deserves.

Luna’s life today is a beautiful reminder of what happens we work together!

We couldn’t have done it without you.

Watching Triton in this video is a reminder of why strong rescue partnerships matter.

This little guy is fighting to regain his mobility, and our partners at Furbabies of Lancaster Texas are giving him that chance. After his first evaluation with Back in Motion Veterinary Services, Triton was considered a strong candidate for rehabilitation. His treatment plan includes acupuncture, laser therapy, and continued rehabilitation, with the first month alone costing approximately $600.

To donate directly to Furbabies of Lancaster:
PayPal: [email protected]

You can also donate toward their regular veterinary expenses by calling VCA DeSoto Animal Hospital and requesting that your donation be credited to the Lancaster Furbabies account. This allows additional donated funds to be reserved for Triton’s rehabilitation at Back in Motion.

Every dollar helps give this little fighter more time, more treatment, and a better chance at getting back on his feet.

Dumped on Arnold Street in Ennis, TX, mama dog Jo and her tiny puppy Marble were found emaciated, terrified, and burning up under the brutal sun. Despite starving with her ribs showing, Mama Jo stood guard, fiercely protecting her baby in an abandoned lot with the little strength she had left.

When the call went out, two lifesavers answered: Ferris Animal Services - Fetch Squad and Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary teamed up immediately to pull them off the streets and give them a second chance.

⚠️ Here is the heartbreaking reality in Ellis County right now:

With no dedicated county shelter, resources are stretched thin across the board. While groups like Pet Coalition of Ellis County work hard to provide support and resources to the animals, shelters and community, physical intake capacity remains critically limited.

When it comes to answering the call, physically taking custody, and providing open kennel space for abandoned county animals, Ferris Animal Services and Flying B Rescue are carrying the heavy frontline intake burden. Without teams ready to physically pull dogs off the street, Jo and Marble wouldn’t have made it.

✨ The Good News:
Today, Jo and Marble are safe, well fed, and learning what real love feels like! Look at that mama's smile now.

But their journey isn't finished until they find their forever families:
🏡 Adopt Jo: Available through Ferris Animal Services
🏡 Adopt Marble: Available through Flying B Rescue

Across Ellis County, intakes is closed almost everywhere you look. Between Ferris Animal Services and our partners Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary, we are the only ones opening our doors to bring vulnerable, abandoned dogs off the streets.

When every other door is shut, Flying B steps in to pull dogs from our care, take on extreme medical cases, and secure foster placements so lives don't end on the pavement. But keeping intake open takes immense resources, food, and veterinary funding.

Today is their big push to keep these lifesaving programs funded. If you want dogs in Ellis County to have a fighting chance when no one else will take them in, they need our community's backing right now.

Our mission is simple:Prevent what we can.Rescue what we must.Heal what is broken.Connect a path forward.Our goal is to bring our communities together to rescue, heal, and find loving homes for animals while addressing the root causes of pet homelessness through
