Otter Tail Community Veterinary Clinic (OTCVC) was founded to increase accessibility to veterinary care for the families of Fergus Falls and the surrounding areas. Mission Statement:
Otter Tail Community Veterinary Clinic seeks to increase accessibility to preventative
veterinary care for the families of Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. These appointments also allow for caregiver education
on how to keep pets safe and healthy.
2. Provide spaying and neutering for dogs and cats for the own individual well being and to control the animal population, relieve stress on the local Humane Society of Otter Tail County.
3. Provide humane euthanasia when a pet is not enjoying a reasonable quality of life. Location
Currently the OTCVC will be hosted by Companion Animal Hospital at 405 Western Avenue in Fergus Falls. We are hoping that the clinic can function in other locations or be hosted by other clinics as we grow. Veterinary Healthcare Team
OTCVC will be staffed by licensed veterinary professionals in the area. We invite and encourage other veterinary medical professionals to volunteer and help this clinic grow and be able to provide more services. Veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and students enrolled in a Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Technology program will provide medical examinations, services and procedures. Students will always be working under the direct supervision of a licensed professional. Availability
Routine exams, vaccinations, and surgeries will be scheduled during special OTCVC hours. The OTCVC will initially be scheduled 8-10 hours a month, but will adjust for more or few hours as need dictates and volunteers are available. Urgent and Emergency care are not currently available outside of scheduled clinic hours for the OTCVC. Services
At this time, the OTCVC will provide wellness examinations, vaccinations, and provide education on preventing and common diseases such as fleas, ear infections, dental disease etc. The clinic will also provide humane euthanasia if a pet has a condition that cannot reasonably be treated and the owner wishes to consider this option. How are we funded? Currently this is a passion project and a labor of love. As we launch, the team at Companion Animal Hospital is willing to provide all time and services as volunteers, and to cover the additional costs of vaccinations and supplies and medications associated with sterilizations surgeries and humane euthanasia for suffering animals. The current fee structure will in no way cover our total costs, and neither Companion Animal Hospital nor any other participating veterinarian will profit from these appointments. The fees will however, offset costs and allow us to provide more care. Future plans
While we want to initially focus on preventative care to serve the greatest number of pets, we hope provide more resources and care in the future. The donation or financial arm of this clinic will not be managed by any member of Companion Animal Hospital or any participating veterinarian. OTCVC will be using a model adopted by other larger veterinary clinics (including Red River Animal Emergency Clinic and its Pawsitive Care Fund). Using Veterinary Care Foundation, OTCVC be able to accept donations from the community and corporate donations in the form of food and pharmaceuticals . These contributions would allow us t0 expand services to include non-routine exams (for pets with health concerns), dental care, and medical and surgical care for common treatable conditions. Additionally we hope to be able to provide food, parasite preventatives, flea and tick preventatives, and other medications to eligible pets. We are also hoping this model can expand and provide care at other location throughout Otter Tail and its neighboring counties with the help of other local veterinary teams.
