A few weeks ago, I went on an amazing road trip to New Mexico with herbalist friends Beth from Sacred Moon Herbs and Gayle from American Botanical Council. First stop was Lubbock, where we went to a cool herb shop Tumbleweed Botanicals and hung out with a bunch of prairie dogs. I requested this little prairie dog detour and it didn’t disappoint! 😄
Next we linked up with our other herbalist friend Ellen and stopped at Ojo Caliente to dip in the hot springs, watched barn swallows swooping overhead, and dorked around Santa Fe for a bit. ✨
Then we all spent 3 full days learning from Tieraona Low Dog, MD at her amazing medicine lodge in the Santa Fe National Forest. We experienced the plants in different ways, heard some epic stories about her life and career and the resident bears she knows by name, ate delicious food, connected with lovely women, and got to meet some of the herbs growing in the garden like marshmallow, chinese skullcap, wood betony, echinacea, elecampagne, grindelia, and many others. My favorite part was probably our quiet walk into the woods, where we then went off to find our own sit spot. I sat with some old ponderosa pines, whose sap smells like vanilla and butterscotch, and enjoyed the stillness. Dr. Low Dog is a nationally recognized expert in integrative medicine, herbal medicine, and dietary supplements. She’s also a martial artist, naturalist, and witchy wise woman who has a deep relationship with the more than 185 acres she and her family steward. 🌿I loved how naturally she moved between all of these worlds, weaving together the teachings and perspectives gathered from the many facets of her life. A very cool experience to learn from her.
Back at our little rental house perched up on a hill, I enjoyed epic sunsets every night and wonderful company. It was a joy to spend my birthday with such fun travel companions.

Being a grower and gardener, it can be really difficult to find time to go on any sort of vacation, especially in August. So grateful Miguel encouraged me to go and took care of all the things so I could make it happen. 🙏🏽🌼❤️
