💛 🐾 From 55 to 2: A 4-Month Journey of Healing 🐾 💛

We rescued 40 dogs, welcomed 15 puppies, and now we’re down to just our last two: One sweet adult (TBA) and our FINAL puppy, Cyclone!

Cyclone is the last pup from the "Stormy" litter born June 8th, and patiently waiting for his forever home with his wonderful foster family.

These puppies have been raised alongside children and are incredibly well-socialized with kids, small dogs, kitties, and even pigs! Having slept inside since they were born, Cyclone is house-trained and knows how to sit and wait for cuddles and snuggles. Every adopter from this litter has praised their temperament, and Cyclone is no exception.

We want to remind every adopter that if things don’t work out—whether it’s a week, a month, or even five years down the road—they can always bring them back. Our commitment to these dogs is lifelong, ensuring that even if our rescue is completely dogless (hooray!), we still stand by our word.

We’re eager to wrap this up not only for Cyclone and our last adult dog but also because we work 9-5 and have our own kennel filled with restless pups ready to hit the trail for fall training! We are what you might say, happily exhausted :)

Help us reach our goal of finding every single pooch a loving forever home! Thank you to our wonderful community of dog lovers, rescuers, fosters and mushers for your ongoing support, this couldn't have happened without you!

If you adopted one of these little rugrats from this litter, please share your experience in the comments and help spread the word by sharing this post!

Additionally, our GoFundMe account is now closed; a recap will be posted, and our heartfelt gratitude will be shared once the project is complete.

To our growing followers and supports--Please like, share, and comment!

What an incredible mission this has been! We began as a grassroots community effort, lacking the infrastructure of a shelter or nonprofit, yet we came together with some truly big-hearted heroes.

Who still needs a home? DERECHO!

We simply cannot get over the handsome good looks of this little fella! How dapper is this tiny gent?

His name, Derecho, is Spanish for “straight,” “right,” or “direct.” It’s also the name for a powerful, widespread straight-line windstorm—and we think that makes it an especially fitting name for this handsome boy with a personality all his own! 🌪️

Derecho is a guy with a personality all his own. He’s independent, confident, and very much a man of his own accord—but he’s still waiting for that special family to come along and claim him as their own.

This handsome boy deserves a forever home where he can be loved, spoiled, and appreciated for the unique little character he is.

Please like and share! 💛

Because good news can feel few and far between these days, here’s another SUCCESS STORY!!

Little girl Squall has officially made it to her new forever home in Ketchikan—and she has a brand-new name: Hali, short for Halibut! 🐟

Why Hali? Her new family caught a giant halibut the very day she arrived!

Hali skipped the boat and traveled by car and then by plane to her new home, and we are so incredibly grateful to everyone who donated to help cover the cost of getting her there. We’re also so thankful to Sirius Sled Dogs Rescue for helping facilitate the car portion of her journey. It truly takes a village! 💛

And she :

“Hali is doing so good! We’re having a heat wave right now, which she’s not a fan of, but we live beachfront, so she gets to splash around at the beach with her doodle brother and her 2-year-old human sister.”

From a life she never thrived in to a beachfront home, a doggy brother, a little human sister, and a family who absolutely adores her.

This is what our grassroots effort is all about.

Happy life, sweet Hali. You hit the jackpot. 🐟🌊

Sorry for the radio silence, but we have the most wonderful news!

Our Ricky baby has officially been ADOPTED!

Please join us in congratulating Ricky and his absolutely fabulous foster fails on becoming a family of four!

We cannot thank Ricky’s new parents enough for opening their hearts and home to him after his rescue. They gave him exactly what he needed: patience, love, safety, and the space to decompress and learn what it means to be part of a family.

And somewhere along the way, they realized they simply couldn’t let him go. 💛

Ricky has officially found his forever home, and we couldn’t be happier for our sweet boy. It brought tears of joy this morning when we got the good news.

Happy tails, Ricky!

Another FBX40 success story!

Happy Monday! We have two exciting updates this week:

🚙 First: UPDATE ride secured! We need a ride for Patches heading south toward Trapper Creek to meet her new forever human! If you’re making the trip or know someone who is and would be willing to give Patches her freedom ride, please reach out to us.

🐾 Second: This means we are officially down to our very last adult dog looking for a home! (We still have six adorable puppies available.) Can you believe it? What an incredible journey this has been!

✨ Meet Cora! ✨

Last week, Cora was spayed alongside Patches and Irie. A huge thank you to Dr. Olson for another successful clinic visit and for helping these dogs take the next step toward their forever homes.

Cora is looking for a very special person—someone with patience, compassion, and an appreciation for a little sass. She’s estimated to be 3–5 years old and is selective about who she chooses as her fur friends.

Cora has tons of energy and would thrive with an active lifestyle. We think she’d do best in a small kennel or home where she isn’t surrounded by a large dog yard. She can become overwhelmed in those environments, and that’s when we see some of her more challenging behaviors. But when she’s paired with just one neighboring buddy, she relaxes and can even enjoy the company of other female dogs.

We’re searching for the person who understands that Cora missed out on those critical early socialization experiences. The behaviors she struggles with today aren’t a reflection of who she is—they’re the result of what she never had the chance to learn.

At her core, Cora is a happy, sweet girl who truly loves people. With the right person willing to give her guidance, structure, and love, we know she’ll flourish.

If you’re active, compassionate, and looking for a loyal ride-or-die companion, Cora just might be your perfect match. ❤️

Cyclone and Derecho are the last two puppies seeking adoption from Stormy’s litter! Both as cute as can be. Very well socialized. Derecho is his own dog, does his own thing, confidently, quietly. Cyclone is curious and a wiggle worm. Available to go to their new homes at the beginning of August. Please email [email protected] for an adoption application

🐾 Attention Fairbanks Community! 🐾

The assembly recently postponed approval of the veterinary services contract for the borough animal shelter last Thursday, raising concerns about why they did not consider Dr. Olson’s proposal, which not only offered more clinic hours but would also saves taxpayers roughly $500,000 over five years.

Arrollador Veterinary, owned by Dr. Mercedes Pinto, a prominent veterinarian in the racing world, has been awarded a veterinary services contract with the Fairbanks North Star Borough, worth $329,000 for the first year and potentially totaling $1.64 million over five years. Office hours are half days, just 4 days a week.

There was a secondary bid however, that was not provided to the finance committee, from Raven Veterinary Service owned by Dr. Jeanne Olson. Her bid was for $206,000.

Dr. Olson has been a pillar in our mushing community, serving as the contracted veterinarian for the animal shelter from 2002 to 2005. She has paid her due on the race trail, acting as the head vet for the Yukon Quest and other renowned races across Alaska. Additionally, Dr. Olson provides thousands upon thousands of spays and nueters each year for rural village animals at a fraction of the cost compared to typical veterinary clinic operations.

Many residents believe the decision-making process lacks transparency and fairness, especially given the critical nature of animal welfare.

Dr. Pinto evaluated our now well-known Fairbanks 40 dogs, deeming them not to be in imminent danger. In contrast, Dr. Jeanne Olson provided a second opinion, asserting that the situation was dire and inhumane. Pinto should be setting the standard for sled dog care with her position in the racing world; it matters, and sets a troubling precedent for mushers deeming situations like these acceptable.

If we want to preserve the integrity of sled dog mushing, the STATE sport of Alaska, we need to ensure our practices reflect the highest standards of care.

Let’s make our voices heard! Email the Assembly at [email protected] to express your concerns about animal welfare and financial responsibility. Together, we can advocate for the best care for our dogs!
