🐾 “HE’S JUST BEING STUBBORN” — OR IS HE? 🤍 🐾

One of the biggest misconceptions about Great Pyrenees is that they are “stubborn.”

But the truth is…
they were bred to think independently.

For thousands of years, Pyrenees were left alone with livestock to make decisions without humans telling them what to do. That means they often:

🐾 Think before reacting
🐾 Question commands
🐾 Make decisions on their own
🐾 Choose what THEY think is important

That’s not a lack of intelligence — it’s actually the opposite.

A Pyr is not usually going to obey like a Border Collie, Malinois, or Lab. They were bred for an entirely different purpose.

This is also why punishment-heavy training often fails with guardian breeds. They respond much better to:
✔️ Patience
✔️ Consistency
✔️ Trust
✔️ Relationship-based training

Once a Pyr trusts and respects you, they will absolutely work WITH you — but rarely because they’re blindly obedient.

And honestly?
That independent thinking is part of what makes them so special 💛

📸 Featuring Rollo, who decided listening was optional, and that lying in the grass for a nap was a much better idea 😂🐾

DOG SIGHTING on Lakewood and holland St in Springfield.
He appeared to be scared. I’m not sure if it’s the dog that went missing in rogersville just the other day. I can’t find the owners post

💔🐾 THIS IS THE REALITY OF SOME OF THE DOGS COMING INTO RESCUE - FREYA'S STORY 🐾💔

We recently took in Freya.

On paper, we were told she was “doing great.” That she was healthy and fine.

But when she arrived… the reality was very different.

Freya came to us:
💔 Completely covered in p**p
💔 Overweight
💔 Thick painful mats covering her body
💔 Wearing a collar so tight we had to cut it off
💔 Clearly neglected for a very long time

We are getting her into the groomer as soon as possible, but due to the severity of the matting, parts of her coat may need to be shaved. We are trying our best to save as much of her beautiful coat as we can.

And honestly? This is sadly not uncommon in rescue.

Sometimes owners are embarrassed. Sometimes they minimize the condition their dogs are in. But situations like this are exactly why rescue work can be so emotionally difficult.

Freya has spent most of her life outside with very little enrichment, companionship, or purpose. No livestock to guard. Very little human interaction. Just existing.

And despite all of that…
she is still sweet.

Dogs like Freya deserve more than survival. They deserve comfort, care, love, soft places to sleep, proper grooming, medical care, and people who truly SEE them 🤍

Please let this be a reminder:
Basic care matters. Grooming matters. Weight management matters. Socialization and companionship matter.

We share this not to shame — but to educate and bring awareness to the reality many rescue dogs come from.

Freya deserved better before rescue.
We’re going to make sure she gets it now 🐾
