A long awaited update that is still to be continuedā¦
I have hesitated making this post mostly because we didnāt have definitive answers until our trip to Texas last week, so thank you to everyone who has followed along and wished Galant well!!
BUCKLE UP because itās a long one! Iāll share some videos and pictures from throughout this last year and a half too.
March 5 2025 is when this journey started for usā¦ I received notification from the trainer that Galant was not acting right and trying to go down to his knees when turning to the left. He had been there for around 30 days at that point and had been doing very well!
Galant was started on an EPM treatment immediately. The trainer treated her whole barn annually and had some horses that were more prone to exhibiting EPM symptoms than others. So, like many people/farms around us here in Missouri, EPM treatment is common. On March 19th I took him to my vet and we drew serum titers for EPM and brought Galant home since he wasnāt able to ride safely at that time.
Now, in case you arenāt truly familiar with EPMā¦. approximately 50% of horses in areas where EPM is prevalent, they will have positive titers! That does NOT mean they have an active EPM infection.
