A raccoon spent nearly a whole day caught in a paw trap in Indiana, with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees, while neighbors desperately tried to find someone who could help.

The raccoon was caught sometime Tuesday night. By Wednesday, neighbor Morgan Fletcher had spent hours making calls, but Evansville Animal Control doesn't handle wildlife calls, leaving residents with few options. Eventually, neighbors contacted a local news crew because they didn't know where else to turn.

A wildlife professional finally arrived around 4 p.m. Wednesday, removed the raccoon from the trap and took the animal for rehabilitation.

The ordeal has highlighted the lack of emergency resources for wildlife in need of help.

Our sponsor, Nuisance Wildlife Control responded to a call from a local media outlet regarding concern of this young raccoon caught in a foothold trap.
David Fisher, is seen briefly, in this video (in the yellow shirt) after confirming that all procedures taken by the Wildlife trapping company (that was hired by the home owner for removal) were in fact all legal by current standards. David waited for the hired company to arrive and received permission from them and the homeowner to obtain custody of the injured raccoon for monitoring, rehab and hopeful release. Before I get into sharing that information, I do want to clarify some misinformation that has been innocently or blatantly shared. While our personal feelings on the matter are not for this discussion, the following are some facts regarding the situation.

by all current standards by the state of Indiana;
-the usage of the foothold trap is legal by an individual holding a wildlife operator's permit
-Foot hold traps while not "lethal" can and do cause injuries that greatly reduce the animal's ability to defend/care for itself once released. It also exposes the animal to a high risk of infection from any open wounds received either from the trap or from the animal trying to get out of the trap.
-the outside temperature parameters of the county do not apply to individuals holding a wildlife operator's permit
-the trap itself has to be checked once every 24hrs
-once an individual with a wildlife operator permit knows an animal is in their trap, they have 12 hours to remove it.

As I stated before, this post is to share the information about this recent situation, not about our personal feelings or how we believe it should/should have been handled. We do feel transparency and having the facts are important in making informed decisions and opinions.

I will be sharing an update soon in regards to this young male raccoon.

About the time David, returned to Evansville from the raccoon with a jar on his head scenario,we received a call about a small buck that had been hit near the fairgrounds. Unfortunately upon arrival the buck was deceased,we contacted the appropriate authorities to take it from there. We are thankful for the public concern for wildlife in need and look forward to working with the community in these efforts

THIS is what we are all about!
We are out at The 4-H Fair this week with a tent to promote nuisance Wildlife control as well as the new rehab and rescue foundation, David was enjoying the tractor pull when I received a call back at the tent about a raccoon with a glass jar stuff on its head that is now up in a tree. This raccoon situation is located 40 minutes away. David left the tractor pull, while I'm tending to our fair obligations, he is on his way to do what he can to help this raccoon safely get the glass jar removed. You never know how the situation will play out, please send good thoughts, prayers and good juju that this turns out well for everyone involved....we will give an update later.
