Lead training, first day!! So Breaker has worn the halter and is used to it by now. It is only my second year of Zebu breeding, and I have learned some tricks to the process. Pressure can make them want to move against it when applied, so I don't hold a steady pressure. I like to use short and gentle give and take on the lead until I get the desired response, which is to move forward, not back. As soon as I get the response I want, I stop the repeated tugs and let slack the lead. This works as a reward along with praise. I repeat these steps in short lessons that last 10 to 15 minutes. I don't expect them to get it right away. This process can take weeks, depending on the calves personality. The key is, starting young, consistency, and patience. Check out my next video to see how I start leading out in the open. It is a different approach.
