This is a courtesy post! Time is running out!

Hello! I’m Bailey Wells and I work at the Sullivan veterinary hospital. I currently have two dogs at our clinic going to be euthanized tomorrow if I cannot find new home/rescue to take them. The situation is guy surrendered the dogs to us to be euthanized last Friday. Last Wednesday a little girl ran through the yard and the dogs where herding her and one nipped her back leg. So currently we have them in rabies quarantine because they were not up to date on rabies vaccination . The dogs show no aggression. They are just very excited, energetic dogs. The guy admitted he has never trained them, and I told him that herding dogs will do that if they don’t have a job or direction. He has small children and home and they have been great with the kids before this, but he didn’t want them anymore because he was afraid they would do it again and he did not want to put in the time to train them. Again both dogs are so sweet and have shown no aggression. I have a feeling the girl was running through the yard and they instinctively heeled her. I know it’s hard enough to find a home for a dog these days, but even harder with a bite history. The unfortunate part is they don’t know which dog did it so he chose to put them both down. My manager is a behaviorist and her and I have been working with them these past few days. They are already responding to training they just need more consistent attention. I can have them fully vetted to go to their new home. They are siblings. 3 years old. Fixed. Australian shepherd/ German shepherd mixes. The quarantine ends on Friday and if I can’t find anywhere for them, they will be euthanatized. Please let me know if you have any advice or direction on what I should do in this situation. You can private message me or I can send you my number. Thank you.

Today we contributed to the neuter of this handsome fella! Cooper was in a rural pound and pulled by a networker when the temps dropped. He is patiently awaiting rescue, but in the meantime he is safe.

Please spay and neuter your pets!

We are proud to say ALL of our pups have been adopted or transferred to another rescue … thank you Safely Sheltered Animals for helping us in our time of need! We appreciate you so much! As many of you know, our fearless leader, Jan Siener, is retiring from rescue and focusing on overpopulation in SEMO through spay and neuter funding. ACTNow! will not be renewing our department of Ag license when it expires this month, but we will maintain our 501(c)(3). We are so grateful for the thousands of dogs Jan has rescued, the money she spent on medical cases, the relationships she’s built within in the rescue community, the hundreds of thousands of miles she’s driven and her generous heart when people needed financial help with their own pups. Jan NEVER said no, she never questioned how much the dog would cost us, or questioned the breed before saying yes … she is indeed a true rescuer. We are so grateful for all the networkers and shelter staff who network dogs in need, for the many fosters who volunteered through the 20 years of our organization, our donors, attendees and volunteers at fundraisers, our wonderful veterinarians and staff, IT support, transporters and of course, our adopters who opened their homes to dogs in need. It seriously takes a village and we couldn’t do it without all of you! Rescue is hard, it can be emotionally and financially draining, but is also filled with so much joy when the dog is pulled into safety, has a warm bed, full tummy and love, receives the medical care needed, and best of all … finds the furever home they deserve! To all our followers … thank you for the support, shares and wonderful comments. You are all part of our community too! Please stay tuned as we pivot and announce upcoming fundraisers. We will still need everyone’s support! Jan, we love and appreciate you! We can’t wait to see what you and the team will do with the new spay and neuter program! Rest easy knowing you made a huge impact in the rescue world and countless dogs are better off because you said “yes”. As Jan would say, “All for the love of a dog”. ❤️🐶❤️

Please like and follow Safely Sheltered Animals FB page. They are a newer rescue and we’re sure would appreciate the followers and support.

Three loves looking for their furever homes! Larry, Laika and Mishke have all been in foster care too long. All three are great with other dogs and potty trained. Please consider giving one of them the family they deserve.

Calvin’s Success Story is one that begins in a small, rural town in southeast Missouri. Neither his first rescue, ActNow!, nor second, Helpless Hounds, knows his entire story, but they can surmise things were hard for him with either a bad owner or living as a stray for quite a while…or both (Cal has scars on his face, head, and legs suggesting someone was mean to him).😢
Whatever his exact circumstance, we do know this: a terrible person shot him in the leg, and it had to be amputated. When Calvin was in need with his shattered leg, ActNow! near St. Louis stepped up and placed him with two wonderful fosters who brought him through the amputation, heart-worm treatment, vaccinations and neuter. Calvin bonded with one of them, and he recovered well—adjusting to life as a tripod hound. Calvin began to understand what love is, and he adored one of his foster parents!
Likely because of his abusive past, it was hard for Calvin to be totally comfortable, and when he became scared, he would sometimes become growly and untrusting.
When he began directing this behavior to one of his two fosters, they knew he had to have a different set up—a second chance—to be adoptable, and finding a childfree, skittish-dog-savvy home would not be easy. This is when Helpless Hounds stepped in to try to help him, finding a foster near the boot heel of Missouri where Calvin stayed for close to four months, playing with their five beagle mixes, running around chasing squirrels in their fenced backyard, and coming to understand that he COULD be safe and loved as he’s deserved all along.
Cal’s second set of fosters started becoming a little sad and nervous thinking it was going to be difficult to find him a home with no children, owners who would work with his “quirks,” some fur siblings his size, and a yard in which he could run freely. Late last week, after 50 weeks in rescue, Helpless Hounds informed them that a couple who had adopted from them before was sincerely interested in making him a part of their pack—complete with another tripod brother Elvis! This Texas-area family thought their seven-acre farm would be a haven for Cal, and they’re absolutely committed to loving him through his fears. Calvin met his new daddy last Saturday in Arkansas—Cal’s fosters drove partway to meet him—and he IMMEDIATELY gave his new daddy kisses and began playing with two of his fur brothers, Walter and Elvis.
The updates from Calvin’s new family induce all of his rescue angels to cry happy tears. NONE of us could have even DREAMED of a home so caring and joyful and fun for him. His new daddy put it this way in an update-text: “Calvin is HOME!”

This was such a sad day!

This was such a sad day!

This is a very true story. It’s all I think about in this kind of weather. I touched this little frozen body, why did he have to suffer. I hope kharma has paid these two people back tenfold. And every other person that has left their dogs in the elements. I hate people that just see a dog as their property. The good ole Boys turn their head when a complaint is made about an animal being mistreated. The police chief pulled me aside and said the next time I wanted to play in his back yard. I had better inform him first.
