EDIT: This little guy has found a home!

Good morning! This sweet little guy was left in the middle of the night at the front door of the clinic. We have fed him and he is safe. As a reminder, please, please, please do not drop stray animals off at the clinic any time of day but especially outside of open hours. This practice is dangerous for the animal and subjects them to the elements, passing cars, and predators.

If you need help with a stray animal, you can call Oktibbeha county humane society and they might be able to point you to a resource. Additionally, getting your pets spayed and neutered will control the stray pet population.

Dr. King had a farm call early this morning where he completed ultrasound guided pregnancy testing on a herd. This testing helps producers manage their herd. Everyday at WCVC is different and today is no exception! In addition to an early morning for Dr. King, Dr. Morris and the rest of the staff have sick pets, health certificates for rescue pups, and itchy skin on the schedule!

There’s a few more appointments available this week if you need an update on vaccines or have a pet under the weather. Call or text the clinic to grab an appointment!

☀️ **Hot Weather Reminder: Keep Your Pets Safe!** 🐶🐱

The summer heat can become dangerous for our furry family members much faster than many people realize. Here are a few simple ways to help keep your pets safe:

🐾 **Avoid the hottest part of the day.** Walk your dog early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.

💧 **Provide plenty of fresh, cool water** and make sure pets always have access to shade if they're outside.

🔥 **Never leave a pet in a parked vehicle.** Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a car can become life-threatening within minutes.

🐕 **Check the pavement.** If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.

🏡 **Bring pets indoors** whenever possible during extreme heat, especially senior pets, puppies, kittens, and pets with underlying health conditions.

⚠️ **Know the signs of heatstroke:**
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Weakness or stumbling
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Bright red gums
• Collapse

Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If you think your pet is overheating, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water, wet them with cool water, and contact your veterinarian immediately.

Stay safe, stay cool, and give your pets a little extra TLC during these hot summer days! ❤️
