We’ve got a busy few weeks ahead at The Crate Escape!

🏗️ June 18 & 19
Daycare and Grooming will be CLOSED while we have brand-new epoxy flooring installed. We’re excited for this upgrade and can’t wait to show you the finished product!

🐾 June 20
Join us at Family Farm & Home for our community event! We’ll have $10 nail trims benefiting the Erie Humane Society, paw print art, adoptable dogs, and more.

💍✈️ June 21–28
I’ll be away on my honeymoon! The Crate Escape will remain open and operating, but I appreciate everyone’s patience while the team holds down the fort.

During the week of June 21–28, walk-in nail trims will begin at 9:00 AM.

🐾 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT THE CATIO! 🐾

The cats at our Catio are part of the Crisis Comfort program. They aren’t homeless—they’re loved pets whose owners are facing a difficult chapter in life and need a safe place for their cats while they get back on their feet.

We’re looking for compassionate volunteers (18+) to help us provide a clean, comfortable, and enriching environment for these cats.

Volunteer duties include:
🐱 Cleaning litter boxes
🧹 Light cleaning and tidying
🎾 Playing with and socializing cats

Requirements:
✔️ Must be 18 years or older
✔️ Complete a brief training/orientation
✔️ After training, volunteer on any days and times that fit your schedule

Whether you can give an hour a week or several hours a month, your time helps us continue supporting both pets and the people who love them.

🎭🐾 Leo's Masquerade Ball Report 🐾🎭

Greetings, peasants. It is I, Leo the Doodle, reporting live from today's prestigious Masquerade Ball at The Crate Escape.

This morning I arrived looking like your average handsome doodle. By afternoon? I was a mysterious masked guest of honor and fresh from the spa. Some dogs call that multitasking. I call it excellence.

For today's enrichment, we donned superhero masks and festive beads while practicing patience, confidence, and focus in a fun new way. Activities like this help dogs become more comfortable wearing and interacting with unfamiliar objects, build confidence, and reinforce basic obedience skills—all while giving everyone a reason to smile.

But here's where I really outsmarted the system...

While my friends were enjoying daycare, I snuck away for a grooming appointment. That means I got to spend the day playing with my buddies, participating in enrichment, and went home looking fabulous. No extra trip. No separate appointment day. Just one adventure packed with fun, socialization, enrichment, and a spa day.

Honestly, if you're going to be a masked superhero, you might as well have a fresh haircut to go with it.

✂️🐾 Grooming Glow-Up Roundup! 🐾✂️

It’s been a busy few days in the salon! From Wednesday through today, Norman, Brody, Loki, Sylvie, Remi, Savannah, Billy, Toby, Eddie the Cat, Annie, Oscar, Liddy Mae, Chloe, Maggie, Shay, Leo, and Autumn (not pictured) all stopped by for some spa-day pampering! 🛁✨

Whether it was a full haircut, bath and brush, nail trim, de-shedding treatment, or a little extra TLC, these furry friends left looking fresh, feeling comfortable, and ready to show off their new looks.

Regular grooming helps reduce shedding, prevent matting, keep skin and coats healthy, and lets us catch little issues before they become big ones. Plus, who doesn’t love a good glow-up? 😍

🍔🌭 PICNIC MODE: ACTIVATED 🌭🍔

Today for enrichment we celebrated National Hamburger Day the best way we could… by admitting we had absolutely zero hamburgers… but ONE very important hot dog snuffle mat. 😂

So naturally, the daycare pups hosted their own little picnic party! The dogs used their noses to sniff through the “hot dogs” to find tasty hidden treats while practicing patience, focus, and problem-solving skills.

Snuffle activities are awesome for mental stimulation because they encourage natural foraging instincts and help tire dogs out in a calm, rewarding way. Plus, anything picnic-themed automatically makes the day 42% more adorable. 🧺🐶

The original snuffle mat concept was inspired by enrichment programs used in shelters and zoos to reduce stress and encourage natural behaviors — proving that sometimes the best brain workouts involve snacks. 🌭✨

🍇 PAW-DON US… THESE MASTERPIECES ARE GRAPE! 🍇🐾

Today for enrichment we celebrated National Grape Day by creating some adorable grape-themed paw print art with the daycare crew! The pups showed off their creative side while practicing patience, confidence, and handling skills during the painting process. Activities like this help dogs become more comfortable with touch, new textures, and gentle restraint — all important for grooming and everyday care. 🎨🐶

While today was grape themed, we also wanted to share an important safety reminder: grapes and raisins are actually highly toxic to dogs. Even small amounts can potentially cause serious kidney failure, and unfortunately there’s no known “safe” amount. If your dog ever eats grapes, raisins, trail mix, grape jelly, or baked goods containing raisins, contact your veterinarian immediately — even if they seem okay at first.

Thankfully our enrichment today was completely pet-safe and full of tail wags instead of toxic snacks. 💜🍇

National Grape Day has been celebrated as a fun way to appreciate one of the world’s oldest cultivated fruits — grapes have been grown for thousands of years and come in over 10,000 varieties worldwide!

Today’s salon squad came in with fluff and left with main character energy ✂️🐾

Today we had Timmie, Buster, Lucy, Zelda, Reese, and Henry stop in for their spa day glow-ups! 💙

Fresh haircuts, clean coats, trimmed nails, and lots of extra attention later… these cuties are ready to strut into the week looking and feeling their best. We’re pretty sure a few of them walked out just a little taller after seeing themselves in the mirror. 😆

✈️ Tomato's Log – National Paper Airplane Day ✈️

ATTENTION EVERYONE. I, Tomato the German Shepherd, would like to report a serious incident that occurred at daycare today.

The humans folded... paper... into a bird shape... and then LAUNCHED IT THROUGH THE AIR.

Now I don't want to alarm anyone, but I believe I witnessed the evolution of printer paper.

Naturally, as head of neighborhood security and professional announcer of all things ever, I took immediate action:

BARK. BARK BARK. BARK.

The tiny flying object zig-zagged through the air with absolutely no concern for public safety. Some dogs stared. Some chased. Some looked confused. I loudly narrated the entire event for everyone because leadership is a burden I carry.

Today's enrichment may have looked silly, but introducing strange sights and movement helps build confidence, curiosity, encourages curiosity around new objects, and helps dogs learn to think through unexpected situations.

Anyway, if anyone needs me, I'll be patrolling the skies for additional paper birds.

☀️ Sunday Spa Day at The Crate Escape ☀️

While some people spend Sundays relaxing on the couch… these pups spent theirs getting pampered and heading into the new week looking fresh! 🐾✂️

Today Baxter, Cody, Gus, Franklin, Walter, Rip, Waylon, Violet, and Marley all stopped by for their grooming glow-ups! 💙

Nothing beats a clean coat, trimmed nails, fresh smells, and a little extra confidence strut on the way out the door. Grooming helps keep pets comfortable, healthy, and feeling their best from nose to tail.
