USDA appointment recap — the prep, the process, and the thing we didn’t see coming.

If you’re moving internationally with pets, this one’s for you. (Check your microchip format. Trust me, it can save you a minor panic attack on I-95)

Riz isn’t reactive. He’s not in a behavior program. He doesn’t have a list of things we’re working on right now. It would be easy to overlook him.

But he needs this.

Time outside, off leash, moving through grass at his own pace. No agenda. No destination. Just a dog being a dog in a place that smells like something real.

Every dog needs this to some degree. Not as enrichment to check off a list — as a baseline. The foundation that everything else gets built on.

GRIT is built around this. Real environments, free movement, genuine community — for the dog and handler who are ready to make it part of the practice.

Virtual instruction, three trainers, prerecorded, live, and asynchronous learning. Applications close Friday - have you submitted yours?

Your dog on week 5 will look completely different from your dog on week 1.

Nosework taps into your dog’s innate superpowers, which is a HUGE confidence boost for them.

Both of these dogs can be environmentally sensitive - the big difference? More time searching.

The search is back on in August - join the waiting list to be the first notified.

This isn’t a training moment. Except it kind of is.
Artie and Riz don’t have the easiest relationship. While she’s learning to let Riz be, Artemis is a bowling ball, and Riz is very aware that he could be knocked over. But this — quiet time, shared space, no agenda — is part of how that relationship gets built.

It’s called social rest. Like chew time, it’s one of those non-training training moments that doesn’t get talked about enough. No cues, no rewards, no asks. Just being together until together feels easy.

Riz adjusting to snuggle closer at the end is not a small thing, it’s actually the whole point. 🥰

This trail has been part of my training life for a long time.

A few years ago I walked it with Mouse. Once upon a time her reactive behavior made her world feel very small.

Getting her to the point where she could hike alongside other dogs, move freely, belong to a wider pack — that took time and intention and the right environment. It stretched her skills in all the right ways, and eventually led to her sharing her household with two dogs she loved dearly before she passed.

Mouse is gone now. But Fig still runs this trail, and with her is Artemis, learning the ropes now too. And GRIT — the program Mouse helped build before any of us knew we were building it — is open.

Eight weeks. Three trainers. Real environments. Real dogs. For the handler who already knows their dog needs something more than a parking lot.

Applications are open. Link in bio.
