A sweet family came out to learn how to process the extra roosters from their straight-run flock. Every one of them did amazing! Mom, Dad, and both kids learned together, and the kids left with a new skill and food to bring home to their family.

We’re so grateful we got to be part of such a special day. Teaching families practical skills and helping them feel more confident raising their own food is one of our favorite things. 🐓🤍

Our chickens are SO happy the 100°+ days are finally behind us! 🐓☁️

Extreme heat can put stress on chickens, causing them to eat less, conserve energy and slow down their egg production. After such a long, brutally hot summer here in El Paso, our egg baskets were looking a little empty.

Now that the weather is finally cooling down, the flock is happier, more active and starting to lay eggs again! 🥚🙌

Cooler days = happy chickens and fuller egg baskets! 🌿🐓

Are your chicks too cold, too hot, or just right? 🐥🌡️

Keeping the correct temperature in your chick brooder is one of the most important parts of raising healthy baby chicks. Chicks huddled tightly beneath the heat source may be too cold, while chicks spread along the outer edges may be too hot.

Remember: the thermometer gives you a starting point, but your chicks’ behavior will tell you how comfortable they really are.

What exactly is a broiler chicken? 🐥🐓

We had the opportunity to visit Coronado FFA and talk with students about raising broiler chickens. Broilers are chickens raised specifically for meat, and they grow incredibly fast. Of course, fast growing chickens also produce a LOT of p**p, and yes, it can get pretty gross! 😂

We loved sharing honest, real world chicken knowledge with the next generation of agricultural students here in El Paso, Texas.
