Ruby’s Recoveries Ruby is a 2 1/2 year old
bloodhound. We will be in our third season tracking together fall of 2026. We are proud members of the Illinois Deer Trackers Network.

She passed her UBT-1 test 8/31/24 and her UBT-2 test 9/15/24

Leroy and I spent the day over in Ashkum, IL today. We tried a UBT-1 test as many other dogs were being tested today. Leroy was doing great, however I failed him by pulling him off the line multiple times when he was right thinking he was wrong. I haven’t had much time behind him yet and he’s got a way different style than Ruby. I’ve spent hours and hours behind her and just a few weeks behind Leroy. We’ll get it in the spring when I’ve had more time to learn his reads. Overall I just needed to trust him and let go of the lead.

I want to congratulate the other teams who passed! All very cool dogs and great handlers. Leroy is still the cutest of them all though. 😂

Leroy ran a shorter aged practice track tonight but with more turns and a lot less blood. Around 350 yards. 1hr 45min aged.

Leroy ran a 4 hour aged practice line tonight. We’ve been practicing all week and this is the most enthusiastic I’ve seen him. He’s really doing great correcting himself and making turns. The video is about 15 minutes but it’s a great watch if you’ve got time!

Boring video—However, Leroy ran a practice line last night as some cooler weather moved in. It was about 200 yards with left and right 90 degree turns. He is very slow compared to Ruby. So I’ve got to get used to that. This is a pretty boring video because he stops so many times to listen to the leaves rustle and scratch himself. I’m hoping he fits into Ruby’s old harness soon because he hates the makeshift collar I’ve got for him now. Hooves 1/2 oz of blood and aged an hour.

This may be our solution to high gas prices this fall. Looking for a sidecar for a T7. 😂

Went live earlier for a Ruby Practice line. Probably should have just filmed it because the video quality is so poor.

She killed it even as I screwed her up on the first 90. Not super perfect but very close. The only thing she struggled with was the lack of scent on the gravel drive. She was getting down wind and the scent was trapped up against the perpendicular gravel drive. After a restart she was able to finish the last 20 yards. 160ish yards. 30 hours aged. Hooves and Blood.

Leroy ran a short track through the woods this afternoon. I cut this track up and edited out all the whining through the weeds limbs and sticks that he wasn’t sure about. (It took him over a half an hour and this is edited to 5 min. )Overall when he was on he did great. 1 hour aged 150 yards 1 oz of blood and hooves.

Quite literally a handful! My goal is to get them all to sit and stay for a picture one of these days 😂
