Why is there no good, functioning cooling plate or anything designed to cool small animals down via standing on it for long periods of time? I’m over here trying to come up with something that will work during the extreme summer heat.

For the time being, I just have a bunch of long, shallow trays and ice blocks that I’ll be using in addition to the fans, but I feel like this isn’t very efficient because the ice melts too fast! What tricks and tips do you guys have for keeping your birds comfortable during the extreme summer heat?

Chick reveal! 🐣

I am absolutely obsessed with these new mottled babies from Sunrise Silkie Farm, a huge thank you and credit goes to her! These eggs came from across the country, so the fact that I had TEN beautiful chicks hatch is amazing. With shipped eggs; especially from that far, I would have been thrilled if even one had made it. I feel incredibly fortunate to have them. 🥰

Mottled silkies were actually the first variety of silkie I wanted, but I couldn’t find any semi-local breeders with high-quality birds to work with. They’re just harder to find (and a bit pricier 😅), especially here in California.

So prepare yourselves because you’ll be seeing a lot of these little guys as they grow! Fun names are coming soon ❤️ I just need to decide on a theme!

It feels like Christmas morning over here! My shipped eggs are hatching, and they are so perfect. 🥰 The eggs came from across the country, so I had very low expectations for how many would hatch. I’m feeling so fortunate. 🐣

I still need to get these guys DNA tested, but I have another group hatching this week, so I’ll get them all tested together. At this point, I just expect boys. 🫠

It’s been three months since I started doing weekly Eloise updates! Here’s a little look back at how much she’s grown. 😌

I’ve been a bit inactive the last few days. I was taking a rest after a very busy week. 💕 Time to get back into the flow of things! I have a lot of exciting chicken stuff coming up this week. 🥰
