We've gotten a couple comments saying that we should euthanize Cyclops.

I want to make this clear- she is not in any pain. She is extremely happy and yes we can tell that because turkeys have a pretty elaborate language.

They can make all kinds of noises for emotions such as curiosity, sleepiness, fear, and of course happiness. She makes happy chirps quite literally all day.

Her main issue right now is her poor vision. She is not blind but her vision as a one eyed turkey is just not good enough to feed herself.

She needs to be syringe fed which sure is time consuming but she is doing so well it wouldn't be fair to give up on her due to the inconvenience of keeping her fed 4 times a day.

Since posting Benji yesterday we have had an overwhelming amount of interest.

There are over a dozen applicants and only one Benji.

I wish there was this much interest for all our critters, like the chinchillas in foster care, but ferrets are extremely popular.

If you are interested in adopting a ferret we recommend filling out an application and sending pictures of your cage ahead of time. Your application will be held for future ferrets if not picked this time.

And a reminder that if you aren't picked this time, being rude about it will ensure you definitely won't be picked next time 🤣

Anyone ever notice that we will get heavy periods of a specific type of animal being dropped off?
This week its ferrets. We've had 5 ferrets dropped off in just 7 days.

Anyway meet Benji. He's a 2 year old male ferret looking for a family that has at least one other ferret for him to be friends with. He's super sweet and was surrendered because his previous family didn't have enough time for him.

Ferrets aren't the type of pet where you can/should keep them in the cage all the time. They are very active and Benji's previous owner did the right thing by requesting help to find him a new home.

A message from Atlantic Critters Rescue...

We cannot keep up. And it's not just us, its all rescues. I just cannot say yes to even a fraction of these surrender requests. I have gotten 6 chinchilla requests just this week. I have had to turn them all down because we already have 3 chinchillas in foster care that have been here months, one approaching literally a year, with absolutely zero real interest.

This goes for specifically chinchillas, guinea pigs, and rabbits. This is a
rescues plea:

If you are on the fence about surrendering. If you are just causually kind of bored of your pet and think someone else is out there waiting to love them- that person may not exist. If you are still providing them with what they need... please just keep them if you can. There isn't another rescue I can refer you to- they're all full too. We are breaking under the pressure. Cant afford to feed your pet? We will help you.

At this point we are only taking emergency cases only. Surrenders for chinchillas & rabbits have a waiting list of literally 6 months. Guinea pig waitlist is estimated at 4 months. We are forced to tell people no all day every day. As animal lovers, it weighs on us not knowing what happens.

And for this we are sorry- we hate it and it's so depressing not being able to help. But that's where we're at. We just don't have infinite resources, space, etc. I've got carpal tunnel surgery coming up so we have to maintain things within reason here. We are only human.

Cute pic of the Long Island hoarding rats- still all shoved into one hammock in spite of having an entire cage with multiple places to hang out.

Sweet blind little guy Pickle & his petite sister Blueberry are looking for a new home! They are six years old, super friendly & loving. Although Pickle is blind he navigates well- its clear he's been blind for some time because he's really got the hang of things.

Volunteer needed today!

Spent a lot of time gleaning (collecting unwanted fruits/veggies) apples, figs, and pears from several Cape May residents this past week.

Now is the time to cut them up and get them ready for long term preservation. We do all our own freeze drying, dehydrating, and canning in house to save summer's bounty year round. Bountiful donations like this can be stretched to feed the critters all winter.

Its last minute but the weather is so nice- does anyone want to volunteer to help us cut up/peel a bunch of fruit today around 5 today? Or if anyone's around tomorrow (thursday) at the same time?

*Update- adopted *
These three ferrets were brought to us in a heartbreaking emergency ❤️ they were so loved but unfortunately their previous owner needed to flee an unsafe situation.

We promised to find them an amazing new home where all three will not be separated. There's one female- the sassy little thing with her tongue out, and two sweet boys. They are all under 2 years old, litter trained, playful, & friendly.

I added a bunch of bunny supplies to our amazon wishlist. Please consider sending some toys and enrichment for the little guys. A lot of our stuff like the hideouts, beds, and tunnels are well worn and need to be renewed. Sofia and Wendall got a huge new tunnel that they absolutely love so thank you to whoever sent that! Check out the link to send a gift 💓 it makes a difference in their comfort while they stay at our rescue
