Rocco came back to school for the day!

Rocco has already completed one of our training programs, but when his family has a busy day, he can come back and spend the day with us.

His day includes structured walks, training sessions, playtime, and opportunities to practice the skills he learned during his original training program.

Our Day Training program for graduates is a little different from traditional dog daycare. It is designed specifically for dogs who have already completed a Top Notch training program and gives them a structured, productive day while continuing to reinforce their training.

It’s a great option for families who occasionally need somewhere for their dog to spend the day while also wanting to keep up with the training they’ve already invested in.

Rocco gets a fun day at school, and his family gets to pick up a happy dog who had a full and productive day. Win win!

Puppies don’t automatically know how to settle. A calm “off switch” is something we have to teach them.

Yara is a puppy who comes preloaded with a little extra energy! Some may think she simply needs more physical activity, but Yara already gets plenty of playtime and exercise. More activity alone does not teach a puppy how to relax.

Yara lives in a home, and going 100% all the time is not an option. That is why we are helping her learn that there is a time to play and a time to calmly settle. This takes structure, consistency, and practice, just like every other skill we teach.

If your puppy is constantly moving, biting, jumping, or looking for trouble, they may not need more activity. They may need help learning how to slow down.

Is crate training mean?

When it is introduced and used appropriately, a crate can provide your puppy with a safe place to rest while helping with potty training, household structure, travel, and future visits to the veterinarian or groomer.

The goal is not to use the crate only when your puppy is in trouble. We want it to become a normal and comfortable part of their daily routine.

Puppy biting is common, but you do not have to struggle through it alone.

If the biting is becoming more intense, regularly breaking skin, happening around food or toys, or making daily life difficult, it may be time to ask a professional for help.

You also do not have to wait until the behavior becomes serious. Early guidance can give you a better understanding of what is happening and a clear plan for moving forward.

Oggie may be just a little guy, but he has been busy learning all kinds of new things in Puppy Day Training!

This week, he worked on his bathing skills. We are not quite sure Oggie is a fan of bath time yet, but we sure think the clean and fluffy results are adorable!

Grooming is an important part of our Puppy Day Training program. Starting these skills early helps make bathing, brushing, and future trips to the groomer much easier.

Consistency is an important part of teaching your puppy not to bite people.

When each person responds differently, your puppy may have trouble understanding what is allowed. Make a plan that everyone in the home can follow. Calmly interrupt the biting, redirect your puppy to something appropriate, and end the interaction if the biting continues.

Puppies learn through repetition, so everyone needs to send the same clear message.

Redirecting is a great first step, but sometimes a puppy is too excited or overstimulated to make a better choice.

Avoid turning biting into a game by pulling, pushing, or wrestling with your puppy. Calmly interrupt the behavior, offer an appropriate toy, and end the interaction if the biting continues.

Your puppy can learn that calm behavior keeps the fun going, while biting makes the fun stop.
