What a weekend!
The Small Münsterlander Club of America held their annual Midwest regional event on June 14-15 at Brush Dale Hunting Preserve and Kennel in Iowa, hosted by Michelle and Mark Wilber. Twenty-five people attended with dogs ranging in age from twelve weeks to six years old. SMCA and Autumn Wings co-sponsored the day, covering event costs for participants.

The event centered on training support across various experience levels. The morning opened with a demonstration of an Invitational run, featuring a brace of two dogs headed to the Invitational this year, Lovec and Beaker. A less finished dog followed so participants could see the contrast between polished and developing performance. Michelle Wilber then led an hour of clicker training, helping attendees build foundations on their dogs through positive reinforcement.

From there, participants cycled through four stations: woah and steadiness, obedience, duck search, and retrieve. Each station gave handlers focused, hands-on practice with their own dogs. The day closed with field work, giving every dog a chance to put the morning’s lessons into a working context.

This past weekend at NCW NAVHDA Autumn Wings dogs ran hard, pointed, swam, tracked and had fun. Jill W and G, Jill C and Freyja, and Jill W and Winston came away with prize 1’s, Shannon and Gunner along with Brian and Frank came away with a prize 2 and Daniel and Monti received a prize 3 in their NA. McKenzie and Colby came away with a prize three in the gun dog test. Great job by all. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped put the test on and the judges!

I particispted in my first NAVHDA Natural Ability Test. Gunner performed well, scoring 102 prize 2. 😀 He was judged on several key hunting traits.
