SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS.

This is Frank Jr. He is a true feral, born to feral parents with little to no human contact during his formative months. We have been trying to catch him for vetting and neuter for nearly two years. Early this morning, we lost him to preventable illness. We never could entice him into a humane trap, although in his final hours he did tolerate a small amount of touch. RIP little guy, you will be missed and we're glad you trusted us enough to come home for your final journey.

The unfortunate reality of cat rescue and colony management is that it's a race against time. Even feral cats can be socialized and made amenable to human companionship. This is much easier after spay and neuter. Not all will be adoptable, but they do bond to their caretakers. We've rehomed eleven cats so far, and manage a rotating colony of about four more. We don't dare even count the dollars or hours sunk into this endeavor. But none of this would be necessary if folks spayed and neutered their pets. Even those that are "indoor only," because accidents happen especially when animals are in heat. Had you been with Frank Jr. in his final days, I assure you those images would haunt your heart as they will ours. There is absolutely nothing kind about letting cats be "natural." It is a short, cruel, and painful life.

Meet Edgar Winter (aka Eggs) and Ghost (aka TINY GIRL AWWW)! Just like the VonWafflebottoms, these cats come from our local cat colony. Eggs is estimated to be under a year, and still acts like a big, sweet, playful baby. He will run up for pets but won't snuggle long; he has Important Cat Business to see to. There are many cats Eggs is Ghost's only surviving kitten. As such, Ghost is very protective of him. Being a teen, he'll sometimes hide from her while she wanders the house keening. Kids, right? She's a bit shy, but sweet and gentle once she trusts you. She'll need a bit more time and space than Edgar to open up. These two would love a quiet adult household, or a home with calm older children.

These two are a matched set and very bonded. They would do best mostly indoors due to their coloring (ears and noses tend to sunburn). However, they do enjoy a bask on the warm stones of our pergola :)
