After much time and deliberation we come to you with an announcement:
We would first like to assure you that we have been working actively while on intake hold in effort to identify programmatic and fundamental need areas. We have been taking steps to address those areas with the goal of resuming operations. This mission is incredibly important to each of us, and pooling collective experience, strengths, and creative problem solving has been essential in this process.
After exploring all available avenues our board has unfortunately determined, both individually and by unanimous vote, that there is not a sustainable path forward for Puppa’s Pals. We’ve been forced to face the crushing realization that without adequate internal growth, and a scalable framework, we are unable to do justice to our mission.
Therefore, we are beginning the formal process of dissolution by winding down remaining operations, and ensuring all associated requirements are completed. Please have faith that any remaining on hand supplies, donated items, and funds will be disbursed to other non-profit organizations, ideally those whose mission and values align with ours.
We’ve accomplished a great deal through the dedicated hard work of a very small team! Together we have served 118 pets and their people, with an average of 107 days in a foster home. This doesn’t include our community outreach, which genuinely became too numerous to track. While their owner(s) worked to overcome obstacles in order to resume caring for them, our fosters have opened their hearts and provided a loving home environment. These pets have also each received vet exams, updated vaccines, spay/neuter, and had health and behavioral concerns addressed whenever possible while in our care.
We’re sure you understand how incredibly difficult it has been to come to this conclusion, and we hope you can trust that this decision and its impact on our community has been very thoroughly considered. This is an especially challenging time in the non-profit sector, especially for those in the animal welfare realm. I imagine we’ve all seen announcements from other organizations recently that are struggling, or have also had to end operations for various reasons. We’ve seen articles and stories of folks who at one time were massively impactful in providing relief to their communities through public service, and have become completely unrecognizable due to the overwhelming impacts of compassion fatigue. These stories weigh heavily on us as well.
We are immeasurably grateful to those who have supported us! Whether by volunteering, fostering, donating, providing services, or spreading the word about our organization. We would also like to thank each of you who has trusted us in caring for your pets. You are what made this work possible!
