PAWS Shelter of Central Texas Founded in 1986, our Hays County Animal Shelter proudly serves the communities of Central Texas. Now in partnership with Hays County Pets Alive!

PAWS is relentless in our effort to save lives and change lives. Our efforts in that regard include:

•Holding offsite adoptions to get the animals out into the community.
•Fully vaccinating and microchipping our animals so that they can begin their long, happy lives with their new owners, “fully equipped!”.
•Visiting local community groups and schools to educate our community on responsible pet ownership.
•Making sure that every animal in our care gets the medical attention it needs.
•Pioneering the Pets in Prison Program (also known as the Cell Dog Program) to help those dogs who have behavior issues that might hinder them in finding a loving family.
•Implementing a Behavior Testing Program which temperament tests all those in our care before they are adopted into the community, allowing for better placement of pets into a new home environment that is best for all.
•Spaying or neutering all our animals to further our commitment to be part of the solution in our communities’ pet overpopulation problem.

Adopt 5 year old Puddy! 🤍🧡

Puddy is a sweet, lovable boy who’s ready to find the person he can call his own. With his gentle heart, goofy personality, and endless affection, Puddy has a way of making everyone he meets feel like an old friend. He’s good with other dogs, and children!

Puddy truly loves people. His kind, patient nature makes him a wonderful companion, and his silly antics are sure to keep you smiling. Whether he’s making you laugh with his goofy personality or leaning in for a little extra love, Puddy brings joy wherever he goes.

He’s the perfect mix of fun and easygoing. Puddy loves a game of fetch, enjoys exploring on walks, and walks beautifully on a leash. He’s also fully potty trained, making him an easy companion to welcome into your home.

More than anything, Puddy wants to be close to the people he loves. He’s the kind of dog who will happily join you on every adventure, then curl up beside you at the end of the day, grateful just to be near his family.

If you’re looking for a loyal best friend with a heart of gold, a wonderful sense of humor, and so much love to give, Puddy is waiting to meet you. He can’t wait to fill your home with laughter, companionship, and unconditional love.

Adopt our sweet Appa! He’s currently in foster with his guardian angel Ben, but we really need to get him into a forever home. He’s been waiting for a very long time.

9 year old Appa is a staff and volunteer favorite. He is currently our longest stay at PAWS and has been in our care for over a year. Fortunately, he’s been spending some time in a foster home, but Appa deserves to live out his golden years with a permanent family.

Appa is the ultimate couch potato and a very smart boy. He’s completley housebroken, knows commands, and loves to give hugs and kisses. This lovable sweetheart is looking for a pet-free family where he can have all the love to himself! Appa doesn’t require a super active lifestyle - just endless treats, belly rubs, and some quality snuggle time. While he can’t airbend like his namesake, he can certainly steal your heart with his loving, laid-back nature. 🩶

It’s National Pet Adoption Week! We just can’t believe our sweet Onyx is still waiting… could you share this post so we can get her home? 🤍

Onyx is the total package… sweet, snuggly, and oh-so-easy to love! This pretty pup is good with other dogs and loves people!

When playtime is over, Onyx is a certified couch potato, ready to curl up and keep you company. She adores kisses, lives for treats, and is totally housebroken.
