Nobody warned me that owning a Cane Corso meant I was also hiring a full-time security detail. 😂

I get up? They get up.
I walk to the kitchen? Everybody’s coming.
I go outside for 30 seconds? Backup required.
I sit down? Suddenly I’m surrounded by 400+ pounds of dogs who apparently have nowhere else to be. 😂

And the best part? They don’t even try to be subtle about it. They just stare at you like:

“Where are WE going?” 👀

There is no “we.” I was literally just getting a drink. 😭😂

MALE vs FEMALE — which Corso is right for you? 🐾

One of the questions I hear all the time is, “Should I get a male or a female?” And the truth is… there isn’t one right answer.

Males tend to bring that big, powerful presence. They can mature a little slower, push boundaries a little harder, and often have that unmistakable guardian energy.

Females are every bit as protective, but they often mature sooner and can be a little more intuitive and independent. They may be smaller in stature, but anyone who has owned a Corso female knows that does not mean smaller personality. 😂

Of course, these are general tendencies—not rules. Every Corso is an individual, and genetics, temperament, socialization, training, and the home they’re raised in matter tremendously.

At Kraken Kennel, I don’t believe one is better than the other.

They’re just different—and equally extraordinary. 🩵🩷

So I’m curious…

So… I keep having people ask if we sell Kraken Kennel shirts and hoodies, and I’m starting to think maybe we need to. 😂🐾

I’ve actually been having a lot of fun creating some prints of my own, and there are a few that I’m absolutely LOVING. 😍 I thought I’d share some of them with you guys and see what you think!

Before I get too carried away 😂 I’d love to know how much interest there would actually be.

Who would want a Kraken Kennel shirt or hoodie? 🙋‍♀️

I’m thinking T-shirts, hoodies, crewnecks… maybe a little bit of everything.

And I’d LOVE to hear your ideas too! If there’s a saying, design, Corso theme, or something else you’d love to see on a Kraken shirt, throw your ideas at me! You guys might come up with something I haven’t even thought of yet.

One thing I want people to know about me as a breeder is that my support has never been limited to the families who get their puppies from me. 💜

If you have a Corso and you’re struggling with something, have a question, need another opinion, or simply aren’t sure what to do next — you are welcome to reach out.

Your dog doesn’t have to have come from Kraken Kennel for me to care.

Over the years, I’ve had people reach out about everything from puppy behavior and training to feeding, growth, health concerns, ear crops, structure, and just the everyday craziness that comes with raising a Corso. 😂 And I’m genuinely thankful when someone trusts me enough to ask.

I don’t know everything, and I’ll never pretend that I do. But if it’s something I have experience with, I’m happy to share what I know. And if I don’t know, I’ll tell you that too.

I believe good breeders should want better for the breed as a whole, not just the dogs carrying their kennel name.

There’s enough gatekeeping in the dog world already.

Nobody prepares you for the Corso Water Bowl Aftermath.

Takes one perfectly normal drink of water.

Walks away with approximately 47 gallons stored in their jowls.

Now there’s a puddle by the bowl.
A trail through the kitchen.
Three mystery puddles down the hallway.
Your socks are wet.
The toddler has slipped twice.
Someone is looking for a mop.

And the Corso?

Standing in the middle of the crime scene with water still pouring out of both sides of their mouth like a busted fire hydrant…

wondering why everyone is being so dramatic.

At this point, we don’t own a water bowl.

We own an indoor splash pad. 😂

🔥 THINK YOU KNOW YOUR CANE CORSO COLORS? 🔥

Most people can name black, gray and fawn…but the CANE CORSO color palette gets a lot more interesting than that.

🖤 BLACK — Deep, solid pigmentation. A black CORSO can still carry recessive genes for colors you’d never know were there by looking at them.

🩶 GRAY — Sometimes called “blue,” gray is actually diluted black. A puppy must inherit the dilute variant from BOTH parents to express it.

🤎 FAWN & RED — From light creamier fawns to deep, rich reds, these dogs typically have a black or gray mask depending on their genetics.

🐅 BLACK BRINDLE — Dark striping over a fawn/red background. Some are lightly striped while others are so heavily brindled they can appear nearly black.

🤎 CHESTNUT BRINDLE — That gorgeous warm, rich brindle! Chestnut brindles can have reddish, brown and mahogany tones that give them an unmistakable appearance.

🩶 GRAY BRINDLE — When the dark pigment of the brindle pattern is diluted, those stripes become gray, creating a completely different look.

✨ FORMENTINO — A diluted fawn with a gray mask rather than black. Shades can range from light beige to warm golden fawn.

HERE’S THE REALLY COOL PART 👇

The color you SEE doesn’t tell you everything a CORSO carries genetically.

A dog can carry recessive color genes that never show in its own coat — and then pass them to its puppies. That’s why pedigree knowledge and genetic testing can be so valuable when planning a breeding.

But color is just the wrapping.

Health. Temperament. Structure. Breed type.

Those should ALWAYS come first.

But we all have a color that makes us stop scrolling. 😍

SUNDAY REFLECTION ❤️

There’s something about the quiet loyalty of a CORSO that makes me think about faith.

They don’t need to understand everything happening around them. They simply trust the person they know.

They stay close.
They watch.
They wait.
They follow.
And when something feels uncertain, they look to the one they trust for direction.

Maybe there’s a lesson in that for us.

We spend so much time asking God to show us the entire plan when sometimes He’s simply asking us to trust Him with the next step.

We don’t have to understand everything God is doing to know who He is.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10

So this Sunday, worry a little less about knowing what comes next.

Stay close.
Trust His direction.
And remember who walks beside you.

Faith doesn’t mean knowing the whole road.

It means knowing Who you’re following.
