1. Why am I helping dogs from another country when there are plenty of dogs here that need help?

2. Why are people buying dogs from breeders, when the shelters are full?

Answer.

1. On a trip to learn about the stray dog population in TCI, I fell in love with the community trying to help these dogs. Like ours they are also struggling. They need help. I saw stray puppies under 3 months old living under abandoned vehicles in the heat. A grown dog with a broken leg. Packs runnings in traffic. Having to say no to a dog facing euthanasia when every fiber of me wanted to say yes. But that isn't logical, its emotional. Dogs losing their lives for existing and maybe asking tourists for scraps of food when they don't find enough at the dump. There are no resources on the island for these dogs and the even the government learned euthanasia across the board simply does not control the problem.

They are mostly puppies under 1yr. Usually closer to 6months when they are brought to the US. They are spayed/neutered and fully vetted responsibly.

2. Lets face it. Rescue dogs are not for every dog owner and not every owner is equipped for a rescue. Knowing the history of a dog can make a huge difference in the future of that dog and keep them from ending up at the shelter. The same can be said for why someone would want a potcake (Island stray dog). We know where they come from, their behaviors and traits.

3. I am additionally helping local dogs. My shelter also pulled dogs from other local shelters to help those dogs with behavior issues or that have been overlooked get the training, one on one care and attention they need to find their forever homes as well. We have a small rescue but doing everything we can to help the most dogs we can because that is the mission:

Help as many dogs as we can.
