We ❤ summer, and summer weather is here! The sun, heat, & lots of events can interrupt our regular walk schedule and times. Our pups still need their physical and mental exercise. If the heat or your schedule prevents a long walk or hike, try a shorter activity like:
>> A shady neighborhood loop
A familiar route still gives your dog movement, smells, and routine.
>> A slow sniffy walk
Letting them stop and investigate can be just as valuable as covering distance.
>>A short park lap
Grass, shade, and a calmer pace can make a big difference.
>>An evening stroll
Cooler temps + fewer distractions can help some dogs enjoy the walk more.
>>A “just enough” walk
10–15 good minutes is better than skipping the walk entirely.
When you're out and about, watch for:
heavy panting • lagging behind • hot pavement • shade-seeking • getting overstimulated
And yes, sometimes the best summer walk is the one where your dog spends 12 minutes sniffing the same patch of grass like it contains state secrets 😆!
