Meet the Queen of the Hive!

There is only one Queen to a healthy hive. Her main role is laying eggs and keeping the colony growing. The worker bees care for her, feed her, and keep her protected while she focuses on her job.

During peak season, she will lay over 2,000 eggs a day!! WOW!!

✨ Fun Fact :

Honey is one of the only foods that never truly spoils! Archaeologists have even discovered pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that were still safe to eat thousands of years later. As long as it’s stored in a sealed container, your honey can last indefinitely.

To bring it back to its smooth, pourable consistency, simply:

💛Set the jar in a sunny windowsill for a while, or place it in a bowl of warm (not boiling) water until the crystals dissolve.

💛Avoid microwaving it or using high heat, as that can reduce some of the natural benefits of raw honey.

💛There is no need to throw it out.. it’s just nature doing its thing! 🍯🐝

Well, the bee escape board worked as advertised!! And, the honey harvest was a success!!

We will have the honey bottled and ready to sell very soon! Be on the lookout!

We are trying out a bee escape board for the first time!

The bottom side is screened with a maze of entrances. The top is just an open hole. The bees are supposed to go down through the escape board and not be able to re-enter the boxes that we will be harvesting from!

We are only testing this out with one of the hives. If it works, we may be going to this method in the future!!

And yes….this is a sign that we will be harvesting honey very soon!!

Here is a very healthy hive doing their daily orientation flights!

Worker bees spend their younger days inside the hive doing a variety of chores, but, once they are mature, it is time for them to graduate to foraging for resources!

To hone in their very accurate internal GPS, they come out for several days and do an “orientation flight”! During this flight they are memorizing landmarks and any other identifiable objects that will help them find their way home! They need this, because some of the foragers will travel miles to get to resources!

Our first honey harvest of the year is rapidly approaching!

This is a video of us uncapping the comb. This wax cap is what seals the honey in once the bees have reduced it to an acceptable moisture level for preservation!

We remove the capping before sitting it in our extractor that spins the honey out of the frames using centrifugal force.
