Friendly Farms - A Small Animal Sanctuary At Friendly Farms we help homeless and abandoned animals, mostly guinea pigs and rabbits. We are located in Monterey County, California.

Friendly Farms is a foster home and sanctuary dedicated to assisting in the placement and protection of rabbits and guinea pigs at risk. We work with the House Rabbit Society to promote adoptions, spay and neuter programs, and proper care for happy, healthy, life-long relationships with our animal companions.

Tomi and the ducks heading home to our secure chicken yard. We don’t leave them out after dark because of raccoons. They are very sweet and cooperative girls. ❤️🦆🪿🦆🦆🦆

Tuesday was vet day. Marshmallow is 5 now, and getting into the arthritis and ovarian cyst years. Thankfully her joints and ovaries still seem to be in good shape. 🥳

Baby Panda has been having episodes of bloody urine for several months now. She had another episode last week, so she is back on antibiotics again. She gets subcutaneous fluids every other day, and meloxicam (an anti inflammatory) every day. We are thankful this regimen has been working well for her. Chronic urinary tract issues can be very painful for guinea pigs. ❤️‍🩹

Cookie is 6 years old now, and his joints are starting to feel arthritic, so he has been prescribed a daily dose of meloxicam. 🧡🐹

Midnight also has urinary tract issues, but much milder symptoms than Baby Panda’s. She gets a daily dose of meloxicam and sub-q fluids once every 6 days. We were wondering if she is starting to get ovarian cysts because of how she chases Penny, but her ovaries still feel normal. 🖤🐹

Bubbles bunny is 11 now and has a good bit of arthritis going on. She’s on a twice daily dose of meloxicam. She is at risk of urinary tract infections, so we ordered a urinalysis. We are still waiting on the results. 🔬🐇

Please join us in welcoming feral kitty girl Lorena. 😼 She was a barn cat at one of our neighbors for several years. They want to be free to travel, and asked if we would take her. She is in the 8-10 year old range we believe.

We had her caged for the first couple of days so she could learn where her food and litter box are. Lorena now has full run of the TV room and catio.

She is good with the rabbits, but thinks we are SCARY and TO BE AVOIDED. She is spending a lot of time under the futon, but hopefully she will begin to trust us soon. Lorena is a lovely dilute tabby, and deserves some glamour shots, and I just can’t get those when she’s hiding. 🩶

Tuesday was vet day this week. 🩺 Topper went in for her regular 6 week dental. She has 2 points that need attention each time now. Thankfully Dr. Thomas can nip or file them down without anesthesia. 🦷

Topper is 9 years old and has some arthritis in her hips, so she has been prescribed an anti inflammatory. We’ve also started a joint support supplement, which is far more appealing to her. 😋

Our friends at Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary need some support! 🐷 Karen is in the hospital, and while Christine is doing a fantastic job running the sanctuary, she can always use more volunteers and funds to help pay for employees and supplies. 🍎🥬🥕🥒

We had a fun visit yesterday, seeing the wonderful animals and caring humans, and doing some odd jobs they haven’t had time to get to. ✂️🪏
