Sometimes, you donโ€™t even realize how stressed or overwhelmed you are until your service dog notices it first. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Our bodies are constantly giving off signals. When stress or anxiety kicks in, your heart rate can increase, your breathing changes, your body releases hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, and even your scent can change. Some service dogs can be specifically trained to recognize these subtle changes and alert their handler before they fully realize something is wrong.

They may notice changes in heart rate, breathing, body language, movement, or stress-related scentโ€”and then respond with an alert, deep pressure therapy, grounding, medication retrieval, or getting help.

Sometimes the handler thinks, โ€œIโ€™m fine,โ€ while their dog is already saying, โ€œNope, I know you need me.โ€ ๐Ÿ’™

That is one of the incredible things about a well-trained service dog: they can recognize changes in their handler and step in before the situation becomes overwhelming.

So incredibly proud of the handlers who made it through graduation. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐ŸŽ“

A service dog can have an entire year of training behind them, but graduation is where the handler learns how to take all of that training and confidently use it in real life.

These handlers spent the week learning their dogs inside and out โ€” obedience, task work, public access, handling skills, problem solving, reading their dogโ€™s body language, building confidence, and learning how to work together as a true team.

It is a lot to take in, and they showed up, asked questions, practiced, made mistakes, improved, and kept going.

Watching each team grow more comfortable with one another throughout graduation is one of my favorite parts of this entire process. By the end, you can start to see that relationship click โ€” the dog understanding their person, and the handler learning to trust their dog.

I may spend a year preparing the dogs for this moment, but these handlers are the ones who will continue the work every single day from here.

I am so proud of every one of them and so excited to watch these teams continue to grow together. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Congratulations to our graduating handlers โ€” you worked hard for this, and you should be proud of yourselves.

Graduation day always hits a little different. ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽ“

I spent the last year training these dogs โ€” not just teaching obedience, but building each one into a dependable service dog for a specific person and a specific disability.

That year includes countless hours of basic obedience, advanced obedience, off-leash work, public access, task training, confidence building, problem solving, exposure to new environments, restaurants, stores, crowds, loud noises, children, other dogs, travel, medical settings, busy public places, and everything in between.

It also means learning each dog individually โ€” what motivates them, what challenges them, where they need extra confidence, what tasks come naturally, and how to help them work through the things that donโ€™t.

There are early mornings, long training days, setbacks, breakthroughs, vet appointments, grooming, feeding, cleaning, socialization, hundreds of repetitions, and an incredible amount of time behind the scenes that nobody ever sees.

Then graduation comes, and I get to watch these dogs leave with the people they were trained to help.

That is the part that makes every single hour worth it. ๐Ÿ’™

Iโ€™m so proud of this graduating class and everything they accomplished over the past year. These dogs didnโ€™t just learn commands โ€” they learned how to become a teammate, a lifeline, and a little more independence for their handlers.

Congratulations to our graduates. You earned this. ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’™

After graduation, Freedom joined me and my kids at the DeLand Homecoming Parade! ๐Ÿ‘ฝ๐Ÿ›ธโœจ

This yearโ€™s โ€œOut of This Worldโ€ alien-themed parade was full of costumes, floats, crowds, music, noise, and plenty of excitement โ€” and Freedom handled it all beautifully.

He stayed calm, happy, and relaxed through the entire parade, even sitting right next to 1-year-old C**t and enjoying all the activity around him. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Experiences like this are exactly why extensive public-access training is so important. A completed service dog should be able to remain composed and focused even in busy, unpredictable real-life environments.

Freedom is currently AVAILABLE as a fully trained, completed service dog. He has extensive obedience, task training, and public-access experience and is ready to be matched with the right handler.

If youโ€™re interested in Freedom or looking for a trained service dog, contact Command K9 Behavior for more information. ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ

๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ Service Dog Graduation at Dave & Busterโ€™s! ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐ŸŽฎ

Our entire service dog class took on Dave & Busterโ€™s, and they absolutely crushed it! Iceman, Hangman, Viper, Goose, Rumble, and Charlie were all placed in a down-stay while their handlers played multiple gamesโ€”and every single dog remained settled and in position without getting up.

Why take service dogs somewhere like Dave & Busterโ€™s? Because real life isnโ€™t always quiet. Between the flashing lights, loud music, arcade sounds, people moving in every direction, children running around, and constant distractions, this environment gives our dogs the opportunity to practice staying calm, focused, and neutral in a highly stimulating public setting.

We intentionally include public exposure like this during graduation so our clients can see firsthand what their dogs are capable of, what they have already been exposed to throughout training, and how to confidently handle them in real-world situations.

The goal isnโ€™t just to have a dog that behaves in a quiet storeโ€”itโ€™s to build a service dog and handler team that can confidently navigate everyday life together, whether thatโ€™s shopping, restaurants, travel, entertainment venues, or busy family outings.

So incredibly proud of this entire class and how beautifully every dog handled the challenge. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ Viper putting her training into a real-life scenario. ๐Ÿ’™

In this exercise, her handler begins by saying, โ€œI donโ€™t feel good,โ€ which cues Viper that something is wrong. Viper immediately goes to press the HELP button to alert someone in the home, then returns as her handler goes to the ground.

From there, Viper positions herself underneath her handlerโ€™s legs to help elevate them, comes back out, checks on her handler, and continues moving between seeking help and re-engaging with her handler several times throughout the two-minute scenario.

What makes this exercise so important is that her handler is intentionally not responding or giving Viper step-by-step directions. Viper has to problem-solve on her own: My handler still isnโ€™t okay. I need to try again.

She repeatedly goes back to the help button, returns to check on her handler, provides physical contact and comfort, and continues working until assistance would arrive.

This is what service-dog training is really aboutโ€”not simply teaching individual commands, but teaching the dog how to think, persist, and respond when their handler may not be able to guide them through the situation.

We are incredibly proud of Viper and the progress she has made throughout the Top Gun class. ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿพ DAY 4 OF 5 โ€” SERVICE DOG GRADUATION WEEK! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’™

Another amazing day with our Service Dog Graduation class!

Today was packed with training and education. We spent extensive time in the classroom going through our training manual, discussing handling techniques, troubleshooting, and making sure each handler understands how to continue building on everything their dog has learned.

We also worked through an obedience session and spent time focusing on each dogโ€™s individual task work, giving handlers more hands-on experience working the tasks specifically trained for their disabilities.

Then it was time to put everything into practice out in the real world! ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ

๐ŸŽฎ Dave & Busterโ€™s โ€” crowds, noises, distractions, games, food, and lots of movement.

โ›ฝ Buc-eeโ€™s โ€” one of our favorite places to really test public-access skills with heavy foot traffic, tight spaces, food distractions, shopping carts, and constant activity.

Every single one of these dogs has done fantastic this week. Watching our clients learn how to confidently work with their dogs and seeing everything come together is exactly what graduation week is all about.

We are SO proud of this group and everything theyโ€™ve accomplished. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿพ Meet our Top Gun graduating class!

Iceman, Hangman, Viper & Goose have officially made it to graduation, with Rumble & Charlie joining them for this special week! ๐Ÿ’™

Every one of these dogs has put in countless hours of obedience, task training, public access work, confidence building, and learning how to support their individual handlers. Watching them grow from dogs in training into dependable service dogs has been such an incredible journey.

Each dog may have a completely different personality, strengths, and tasks, but they all have one thing in common โ€” they have worked incredibly hard to get here.

So proud of Iceman, Hangman, Viper, Goose, Rumble & Charlie and even more excited to watch them begin the next chapter alongside their handlers. ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบโœˆ๏ธ

Congratulations, Top Gun class! You earned those wings. ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿพ
