We've seem to be having a tough week with news. One of our longer member dogs passed last weekend. Our dear heart Chance was a fixture at our park. He leaves behind a heartbroken family. He would frequent our park almost daily with his owners, Dave & Denise. He was very well known for his playfulness with balls, friendliness towards other dogs and he loved people. Even in his older age, he still came with his owners and would sit in the pavilion with Dave. In his younger days he enjoyed a good romp with a herding ball. We have a good video of him pushing the herding ball around the park. Lately he made several trips over the winter(s) with Dave & Denise and did very well with travel. Losing a pet is a deeply profound heartbreak and we wish Dave & Denise comfort as they adjust to this loss. We know how hard this is as some of our members have experienced this as well. He will be missed. Rest easy, sweet Chance—you will always be the best boy.

We just learned and are sad to report that one of our members, Barb R, lost two of her dogs in the past 20 days. Barb’s one dog, Marissa passed a few weeks ago and just a short while later, this past Saturday, her beloved Maxx passed. It’s been a heartbreaking 20 days for Barb. Please keep Barb in your thoughts. Barb would visit the park with her multiple dogs when she could and when the dogs could. She does have other dogs at home to comfort her. Snowflake, Tortellini and Peanut. Please keep in mind that her one sweet kitty has been missing since early spring. Oh Barb, we wish you peace and comfort during this trying time. Take care of yourself and your little ones. Hold them tight and keep giving the excellent care and loving you always have done.

Be In - Be in the Know

3 things –

As usual our August-September bees are back and they are still camped out in our pavilion. We’ve sprayed several times -AM/PM and although we may have had some effect, they are still hanging around. We have consulted with Maintenance as to the chemical that may be effective and between them and us, we’ll hopefully get this situation resolved. The next step after that would be to get an exterminator. So in the meantime, maybe avoid several of the corner areas of the pavilion as they seem to be holding a grudge and lashing out at times. We did put out 4 'bait' stations to lure away the bees to the outer area somewhat. It appears we are catching yellow jackets for now. We also have a small shallow bowl of water/soap hidden for them to drink and hopefully get stuck.

Reminder of our upcoming October meeting. Wednesday, October 7, 6:30 PM at the office. Agenda to include how the summer went, hopefully some of us will get to a long range planning meeting to get info on winter care and flooding at the park, maintenance and landscaping, membership counts and officer information. We’ll also talk about our dog park tag rates.

And another reminder, the Pier Dr. Bridge will be taken out this fall. We just learned now that the new date of closure is September 23. It was originally scheduled for the 8th. It will now hopefully start September 23. The contractor is running behind.

The project should take 2-4 weeks to complete. During construction, Pier Drive behind the dam will be closed to all traffic. During this time, you will need to use Best Road to avoid the construction area.

To reiterate, this will be inconvenient to some using our park. Like me, I’m near the lodge area. If I bring my dog by car, I will have to go out main gain and come back inside, east gate (near maintenance) and proceed to the park on Lake Summerset Rd. Other option, if I walk Ryan-I can park at the main marina, walk across dam and then to Harting Park. I suppose you can bike that as well but dogs don’t bike well. Golf carts will have to go all the way around the oppose direction then back. So, again, this will be a bit of an inconvenience and most of us will forget. I know I will ☹

See you all at the Meeting. I’ll send another reminder and post on Nextdoor and Facebook.
Have a great and safe Labor Day.

We've been advised to let people know to not put their dogs in the lake for a bit. It is testing positive for some bacteria that may not be too good for dogs or humans. It might only just be a few days but just be cautious and don't put your dogs in the lake for now.

We made a decision to postpone and cancel the Saturday, August 1 party and maybe make a holiday party instead later in the year or in the New Year. So do not come to the lodge on that day. We hope to see you around the park soon and if you have questions, please feel free to ask me. I will also email. Thank you for your understanding.
