Rodents - The Common Degu (Octodon degus) - Least Concern

The Common Degu is a small hystricomorpha rodent endemic to central Chile. Unlike most rodents, it is precocial, and born with functional eyes and ears. It can even see ultraviolet light. As it ages, some individuals in the population are vulnerable to Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes, making it an important species to medical study.
