NASCAR is in Richmond this weekend, and we want you to know whose hometown you are in 😏
Dystany Spurlock is the first Black woman to race in a NASCAR national series. Dystany Spurlock grew up right outside Richmond Raceway. Her first track was Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie.
Before the trucks, she set a world record in motorcycle drag racing. 7.32 seconds at 178 miles per hour. She also played football on the boys team at Highland Springs.
She has said being first was never the goal. She just loves to race.
Sixty years after Wendell Scott of Danville broke through at NASCAR’s top level, another Virginian is doing it again.
Black History Museum of Virginia- open Wed thru Sat 10am to 5pm is preserving the stories that inspire.
