Safe Haven K9 Quarters is a concept and dream that I have to build a small kennel building to give me the ability to immediately pull dogs that are kill-listed at a shelter and there is no immediate foster available.

Chappy is getting his bucket list ice cream. His growth was removed about a month ago, but has already started to grow back. 😔 The Dairy Barn is closing for the season. I hope hes with us next spring when they open again, but we braved the crowd tonight, just in case.

I just read an internet post this morning about a dog that escaped, and was unfortunately hit by a car and passed away. His body was picked up and never scanned so it was days of worry and searching by his family.
I don't know if people know this, but scanners are very affordable these days. I recently got one that works well for the newer microchips for under ten dollars. At that cost anyone should be able to scan a dog. It doesn't pick up the really old microchips but it picks up the majority, and that's better than nothing. I would eventually like to buy one that reads all chips, but for now this will do. If local road crews and good samaritans all had these scanners, I think it would bring closure to a lot of people.

I have a favor to ask. If you have spare bandaging materials left over....often from a VA patient, or hospice etc....and don't know what to do with them, please consider me. I had bandaging materials given to me from two different patients,
and I currently have a dog with a gunshot wound that I am bandaging often, and have had to buy almost nothing! Often the bandages that I am donated could be upwards of ten dollars a piece for the fancier stuff. Usually, these donations are only possible because a loved one passed away, and I do not take that lightly, but please know I am putting it to good use. I can also use left over bed pads, syringes (unopened, no needles), wound cleaners, etc. Thanks all.

I've been very busy with dogs since about March. They come, and then they go and then more come. Some have problems, and some don't. Some are only here 24 hours, and some have stayed for a year. It would be a huge, long post if I detailed everything that went on. But suffice it to say, working hard at this is a good thing. Every life saved is a life that impacts a human and I'm sure I don't have to argue with anyone about the impact a dog has on a person's life. ❤️ Its a privilege to be able to help.

I got some bad news today. Chappy, my 12 yr old foster who I have had for about a month, has oral melanoma.
I have grown to love this guy so much, and I knew he was on borrowed time at his age, but he is so happy, active and playful, I never suspected. I call him "Grandpappy Chappy" because he loves to play with the puppies and his eyes just light up.
So today Chappy became part of our permanent family. We wont get to celebrate Gotcha Day next year, so we will celebrate it today.

I'm sure we've all heard the saying "when God closes a door, He opens a window". I think my version is "when a dog goes to a home, another comes to replace it." In this case, its 3 Malinois mix puppies! MAD rescue will be finding them fosters but they will be with me in the short term.

And before you ask....yes, I am insane. There will be arriving at about 6 pm tonight. LET THE FUN BEGIN!
