This is the part of what I do that never gets easier. đ
When people leave their dogs with me, they arenât just dropping off a dog for me to feed and keep safe. They become part of our lives while theyâre here. We learn their personalities, their funny little quirks, what makes them happy, what makes them nervous, what toy they love, where they like to sleep and exactly how they want to be loved.
We build relationships with them. We worry about them. We laugh at them. We cuddle them. We take a ridiculous number of pictures of them. And somewhere along the way, we fall in love with them too.
Thatâs what I want Pampered Pet Lodge to be. I never wanted to simply âboard dogs.â I wanted this to be a place where they are genuinely known and genuinely loved while their families are away.
But there is a painful side to loving them this much. Every time I lose one of my boarding babies, a little piece of my heart goes with them.
This one hits especially hard.
Kyber was just here. I had just spent all that time with him, caring for him, loving on him, taking pictures of that beautiful goofy face and watching him be himself. And when his family picked him up, he was doing so good. I never imagined we would be saying goodbye so soon.
My heart is absolutely broken for his family. I know how deeply they loved their boy, and I feel incredibly fortunate that they trusted me with him and allowed me to be a little part of his life.
This is the price of loving these animals like theyâre our own. Eventually some of them take a piece of us with them.
Rest easy, sweet Kyber. You were so very loved â at home, and here with us too. You wonât be forgotten. â¤ď¸đž
