Bosque River Boykins Our mission is to produce AKC-UKC-BSS registered pups to preserve & strengthen the Boykin Breed. We are a Preservationist breeder.

Our mission is to produce healthy Boykin puppies that have a strong desire to be the best hunter in the field and retriever in the water. They will also be an excellent choice as a companion/pet. Our pups will come from breeding dogs that have been vet examined for the seven identified inherited diseases of the breed. All of our puppies will be AKC- UKC- BSS registered. We aim to strengthen and preserve the Boykin Breed.

Have you completed your Boykin Spanielā€™s health testing? The Boykin Spaniel Foundation (BSF) offers reimbursement assistance for eligible health testing expenses!
āœ… Current BSS members with BSS-registered dogs are eligible.
āœ… Reimbursement is available for one set of the seven required tests per dog, per member, per year.
To apply, simply email copies of your Boykin Spanielā€™s OFA certificates to:

September is Boykin Health Awareness Month! šŸ¾

Throughout the month, weā€™ll be sharing information and resources from the Boykin Spaniel Foundation to help all Boykin owners better understand their dogsā€™ health and the important role we can each play in the future health of the breed.

And health testing isnā€™t just for dogs that will be bred.

Testing can provide valuable information about your own Boykinā€™s health, while submitting results helps build a broader picture of health across the breed. The more we know, the better equipped we are to protect the Boykins we love today and for generations to come.

This month, weā€™ll be talking about genetic testing, eyes, heart health, hips and joints, testing assistance, and some of the most common questions Boykin owners have about health testing.

Weā€™ll also share more about the important work of the Boykin Spaniel Foundation and how you can help support its mission.

ASK THE EXPERT: Why should I health test my Boykin if I never plan to breed?

We asked Dr. Fred J. Wright, DVM, Chairman of the Board of the Boykin Spaniel Society, why health testing matters even for Boykins that will never be bred.

Dr. Wright explains that the Boykin Spaniel Foundation was created to help track the overall health of our breed. By completing the health tests recommended for Boykins, owners help monitor trends within the breed. Testing helps us see whether hips and knees are improving, stay ahead of potential eye and heart issues, and better understand trends in genetic diseases.

Your Boykinā€™s health information can become part of something much bigger. Every dog tested helps build a clearer picture of the health of the breed and supports a stronger future for Boykins.
