My dogs and I had a great time at the Virginia Jack Russell Terrier Club (VJRTC)’s Jacks in June terrier trial this past weekend at the beautiful chesterfield county fairgrounds.

Both Scout and Tara showed well in the ring and had fun in the tunnels. Scout was super earth veteran reserve champion on Sunday and Tara tried agility for the first time and really seemed to like it and have fun. She also really went nuts over the tunnels and did thunder tunnel for the first time and came a respectable 5th on a challenging tunnel!

Huge thank you goes to Donna, Chet and Stephanie for putting on a well-run trial and we can’t wait to come back for more fun next year.

Huge shout out to the Carolina’s jRT club for putting on such a great show despite the deluge and flooding last weekend. We had a great time despite the wet and Scout came home with some bling. On Saturday she did well in thunder tunnel, gtg and super earth. She was 2nd place in her suitability to groundhog class and Sunday she was first and went on to win Best of Suitability. She also got reserve champion in both go to ground and super earth on Sunday. I’m so proud of my little girl!

Her daughter Tara showed well in her conformation classes both days and finished in 5th and 6th place.

So I ran out of time yesterday to post a happy birthday post for Scout since it was her 6th birthday but she made me proud as punch at the Mason Dixon terrier trial today by winning first in suitability, first in veteran working terrier and best working bitch. Now she gets to play in the tunnels.

I can’t thank Amy Humphrey enough for taking her and showing her for me.

That person who asks you 1000 questions minutes before you're headed into the ring and wants to pet your dog...

That enthusiastic person at their very first dog show who is taking imperfect photos to show their friends…

That one Instagram follower who's in your DM's always asking you questions about your dogs...

That new exhibitor who just bought her first purebred dog and wants to try her hand at showing without the help of a mentor...

A puppy home who just wanted a pet and now are following you to every show...

That parent of that little girl with sticky hands who you educated on junior handling and offered one of your dogs too....

That person sitting at home that admires everything you do with your dogs and strives to build a program modeled after your own....

The Future of our Sport & Purebred Dogs does not only lie in the hands of juniors or 2nd generation breeders. The future of our sport can come down to positive interactions as simple as those above with individuals who can grow and evolve into some of the greats of their time. We never know how one small interaction can completely inspire another. Had that woman years ago scoff and not allow me to pet her showline Beagle at one of my first shows, I could very well not be where I am today.

Be patient with those who don't know how dog shows work and be kind to those who just want an interaction with you or your dog. As that quote says you never know who is watching you and wishing "I hope I can be like them someday."

My Girl Scout got her NHC to groundhog last weekend in West Virginia! She had a blast running around checking settes.
