When I first started training dogs, I had no idea where it would take me.

What started with one dog, a lot of early mornings, and a whole lot of figuring it out has grown into something I’m incredibly proud of. Somewhere along the way, the dogs stopped being just the work and became the reason for it.

Every dog has taught me something. Every dog has made me a better trainer. And looking back at where I started compared to where we are now… I wouldn’t trade the journey for anything.

Happy National Dog Day. 🐾

Here’s to the dogs that started it all, the ones we’re working with today, and all the ones still to come.

The season is getting closer and closer… but the work happens long before opening day.

Trust isn’t built the moment you raise your hand. It’s built in the thousands of moments that came before it.

The first photo isn’t just a sit-stay—it’s a dog choosing to remain where she’s asked because she trusts her handler.

The second photo is where communication begins. One simple cast. No leash. No physical guidance. Just a clear signal.

The third photo is commitment. She runs with confidence, not because she’s forced to, but because she trusts the direction she’s been given.

And the last photo reminds us what it’s all comes back to—the relationship.

Great handling isn’t about controlling a dog from a distance. It’s about building a bond so strong that distance never weakens communication.

Every successful cast is a conversation. Every clean retrieve is proof that trust travels farther than any leash ever could.

Connection first. Communication second. Performance follows.

When we say that our dogs will work for anybody. We mean ANYBODY.

The best dogs always have a little something they can teach the handler.

She was never just a “training dog.”

She was the first one I was trusted with to figure it all out—trial, error, and everything in between.

I thought I was there to teach her… but looking back, she taught me way more than I ever could’ve given her.

Timing, patience, pressure, feel—she built a lot of what I know now without ever meaning to.

Crazy to think how far we’ve both come since this moment.

I know we’ve posted a lot about puppies recently, but we’ve got another crüe going home this weekend.
Our Will x Honey litter will be going to their new homes Saturday. Unfortunately this will be Honey’s last litter here at SOK Lone Star due to birthing complications from this past pregnancy. It’s a bittersweet moment as Honey was our first import that was brought directly to Texas. She’s been with us since 2021 and she’s been apart of building the foundation for SOK Lone Star. Anyone who has met Honey knows just how sweet (and soft coated) she is. She is an extremely driven dog in the field, and we have seen her throw that characteristic in her litters time and time again. We think this litter will be the exact same. Driven, biddable, and overly eager to please.
