💧🐾 TIP OF THE DAY: KEEP YOUR PUP HYDRATED! 🐶☀️
Did you know that dogs can become dehydrated while playing outside, especially on warm or humid days? Running, chasing friends, exploring the yard, and simply being active can increase their need for water.
Just like us, our furry friends need regular opportunities to cool down and replenish fluids throughout the day!
🐕 Here are a few important hydration tips every dog owner should know:
💧 1. Always provide access to fresh, clean water. Dogs should have frequent opportunities to drink, especially after playing, exercising, or spending time outdoors. Don't wait until your pup seems thirsty to offer water.
🌳 2. Take regular breaks during outdoor play. Dogs can get so excited about playing that they keep going even when they need a rest. Encourage breaks in a shady, cool area and offer fresh water throughout their playtime.
☀️ 3. Be mindful of heat and humidity. Dogs cool themselves primarily through panting, and hot, humid weather makes cooling down more difficult. Even when your dog seems happy and energetic, it's important to monitor their activity and avoid overexertion.
🐶 4. Know the warning signs. Excessive panting, unusual tiredness, weakness, thick or sticky saliva, and sunken-looking eyes can be signs of dehydration or heat-related illness. Heavy panting, vomiting, weakness, confusion, or collapse in the heat can signal an emergency. Move your dog to a cooler area and seek veterinary care immediately if you suspect heatstroke.
❤️ 5. Remember that every dog is different. Puppies, senior dogs, flat-faced breeds, and dogs with certain health conditions may need extra care in warm weather.
At our daycare, outdoor fun goes hand in hand with attentive care, water breaks, and opportunities to rest. Because a happy pup is a pup whose needs are being looked after! 🐾💙
QUESTION FOR OUR PET PARENTS: Does your dog take a quick drink and run right back to playing, or do they prefer a nice long water break? Tell us in the comments! 👇🐕
