I love utilizing treats and positive rewards as well, and itā€™s a HUGE part of my game. But there is also a portion of my game that MUST be disciplined and correction focused. No exceptions , no buts, itā€™s , or whenā€™s. Itā€™s the way it NEEDS to be in order to perform alchemy on certain breeds.

Correct for less behavior
Reward for more behavior

The problem is, everybody has a different idea of what a correction is, and it gets misconstrued.

Treats can get you far, but itā€™s not the whole enchilada.

Picture thisā€¦ā€¦

You have 3 dogs living in your house.

UPS knocks on the door.

All 3 dogs literally go insane and start barkingā€¦.

*BUT ONE OF THEM IN THE MIDST OF THE KNOCK/EXCITEMENT DECIDES TO TURN AND START BITING & ATTACKING THE OTHER 2 OR ONE OF THEM.

Why? Because the excitement created even more excitement and now your alpha dog is turning against the pack momentarily. He/she feels like she should be the ONLY one allowed to handle the situation, and is harshly correcting the others as a result.

Barking is allowed, sure - but attacking one or both of them, definitely isnā€™t.

The training ABSOLUTELY needs to be more intense if your dog is still lunging and trying to harm every dog it sees. Thatā€™s just how it needs to be. If you keep babying your dog and thinking itā€™s a perfect angel while itā€™s still attempting to hurt and harm other dogs out there, then the problem will always persist. You need to correct your dog harder, and with more patience.
