Choco now has 30 days of training and is started under saddle! He’s learning and progressing! He should make a good project horse for an experienced trainer, or an adopter that has a trainer that can keep moving him in the right direction. If you’re interested in adopting Choco, please send us a message and we will be happy to discuss guidelines.

Today was spa day for Maude… whether she ordered it or not! 😂

When we started working on her tail, we quickly realized we had a situation. Tangles, knots, and dirt had turned part of her beautiful mule tail into one giant matted mess.

There was a whole lot of detangler, patience, brushing, picking, pulling apart knots—and eventually, a little trimming where there was simply no saving it. Just look at the pile we took out! 😳

But underneath all of that mess was a beautiful tail just waiting to be found. ❤️

For horses and mules that haven’t always had regular grooming and care, things as simple as detangling a tail can be part of getting them comfortable with being handled and cared for. Maude was such a good girl through the whole process.

Another little piece of Maude’s makeover complete. 🫏💕

Guinness is getting some extra TLC for those big feet of his! 💙🐴

Guinness is currently dealing with thrush, so along with treating his feet, we’re spending plenty of time working with him on picking them up and standing patiently while we clean and treat each hoof. As you can see, he’s being a pretty good boy about it!

Guinness has a long history with us. We’ve cared for him on and off the mountain since 2016, long before he came to the Appalachian Horse Center. Watching him learn to trust us with things like handling his feet makes these moments a little extra special.

Right now, our focus is getting those feet healthy and comfortable and continuing to teach Guinness that being a domesticated gentleman comes with a few perks—even if hoof treatments aren’t his favorite one. 😂

One foot at a time, big guy. 💙
