How I teach a down stay and increase duration over time.

Just picked up ghost. He’ll be spending most of the day with us while we take him to the woods into the beach to shoot some videos so hopefully get some interest in him going. He is roughly 1 1/2 years old 75 pounds mixed breed. His current owners have a baby and another dog and he does well with them. He’s also gotten an obedience training in the past, but will need some brushing up on, which will be doing a little bit of that today as well. Please reach out if you’re interested in adopting him, understand that this will be treated as no word from any adoption agency and a home inspection and referrals will be needed. If adopted locally, he will come with three free individual training sessions and no matter of location for a doctor he will have discounted boarding rates for the entirety of his life.

Honestly, almost thought about not posting this or editing it to cut out the very last moment but then it would be a lie. There’s a reason why it’s called training, you can see Digi doing fairly well with his commands while we’re walking through Tractor Supply. The moment I take my eyes off him, he goes right after the the plush on the shelf. This is realistically what training looks like, it’s not perfect in the beginning and sometimes even if it’s going well, there’s a moment where the dog remembers he does have free will.

Meet Digi (pronounced Diggy), a 14 month old Belgian Malinois. He’s with us for six weeks, we’re gonna be going over more advanced obedience and increasing the duration of his ability to hold a command, as well as continue his training and get him even better at detection work on bedbugs.

Well, both Dante and his brother Dean are able to locate odor. They don’t have the drive It takes to be explosive detection K9’s. So the best course of action is to wash them out of the program. The bright side is they get to just be pets, they can have a family and play with kids. We’re meeting with a potential family for Dante in a few minutes.

CJ turned 12 on October 10th but you honestly wouldn’t be able to tell. He put everyone to shame on the hike, followed it up with a quick swim and was ready to keep the day going when we got back to the house.

Getting some sleeve work in with Detection Dog Cody He’s not a protection k9 and never will be, but he enjoys getting on a sleeve and it tires him out for a bit.

Haven’t posted in a while because this had to be the next post. It’s the hardest one to do because it makes it real. It means you’re really gone. That means you’re not running to the door anymore wagging your tail when we come home. It means you’re not waiting on the couch waiting for us to come to you to give you belly rubs. It means that one spot on the couch is always gonna be empty now.

Cassandra, we love you so much and miss you and think about you every day. You had so many nicknames(Waggy, Waggies, Princess, Princessa). You smiled the most in the woods and at the beach. You were the laziest adventurist pup. You didn’t like people right off the bat, you always made everyone earn your love and when you did let them in, they were your people. You’ll always and forever be our little girl you keep wagging your tail for us until we see you again.
