There are those that might have noticed that I have changed everything to permanently closed, unfortunately due to life events I have had to transition away from training dogs. While it is sad to step away I loved getting to meet all the dogs and owners along the way and learned a lot from the experience.

If you want to say hi I will still be around and can be found at Ken Ware in Coos Bay as their new salesman, Stop by with your pups if you have a chance!

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your dog training journey.

Thresholds!

One of the most important things to teach your pups! We hear all the time of dogs getting out due to doors being left open, or squeezing by due to a visitor etc and ending up at the shelter or vet.

All this can be avoided by spending five minutes a day teaching your dogs their boundary line, this can be done in several ways but below is one of the many methods.

The biggest thing you will need is a leash; 4ft, 6 ft, 30 ft, doesn't matter. All you do is open your door a little and if your dog steps out use a no reward marker and guide it back inside. Most dogs after 2/3 times will look to you for guidance and this is where you can release them out of the door with a release que (break, ok, free, etc). Slowly you add other challenges such as you stepping outside without them, opening/closing the door, kids going out, people at the door, etc. By slowly increasing the requirements and proofing them with planned distractions you can build a respect of thresholds that can be applied anywhere by following the same rules, no leaving without release whether it be the front door, crate, car, etc.

If you need help or have questions reach out, we would love to help you reach a new level with your pups!
