Thinking of you today, Gatsby. One of the original furbags! It's been 5 years since we said goodbye, but your spirit still lives on, encouraging us to travel, to snooze on the couch, to enjoy slow walks, and that it's okay to be a little grumpy sometimes 🙂

Until we meet again, buddy 🐾❤️

🥾🌲 Thinking about hiking alone… but the woods feel a little too spooky?

Same. A single twig snaps, and suddenly it’s definitely a bear plotting my demise.
But the truth is, solo hiking can be empowering, peaceful, and way less scary when you know what to expect.

I'm on the small side, so hiking alone has always carried that 'what if' factor. From remote hikes in Colorado to deep forest visits in Pennsylvania, I've definitely trekked my fair share of trails solo. And one thing I've learned is that it's much better to hike alone than not at all.

✨ In this new guide, you’ll learn:

• The 5 biggest fears people have about hiking alone (and why they’re totally normal)
• How to choose a safe trail
• What to pack so you’re prepared for anything
• Smart safety habits that make solo hiking way less intimidating
• Why bringing your dog is basically a cheat code for courage 🐾

If you plan to hike alone, here are 9 ways to do it safely: Choose the right hike, pack your bag correctly, use a tracking device, tell a friend where you're going, bring a fully charged phone, bring protection, avoid headphones, leave a note in your car, bring your dog

Great Sand Dunes National Park 🌞🏜️

We've been to a couple of sand dunes now...Great Sand Dunes, Indiana Sand Dunes, and White Sands National Park. In our humble opinion, Great Sand Dunes is still the best out there!

What we learned at the dunes:

⛰️ Those sand mountains are massive — the tallest in North America
🌬️ The wind shapes the dunes daily, so the landscape is always changing
🌞 Sand + sun = a workout you definitely feel in your calves
🐾 Pawdrick decided sand was NOT his vibe…
💪 …and Dad ended up carrying him part of the way down

(Was he tired… or was he faking it for a free ride? The world may never know.)

Still worth every step. The dunes are wild, beautiful, and unlike anywhere else we’ve traveled.

If you followed along with our travels last year, then you'll remember how many videos I made complaining about the cold in the southern states 🥶 The 'unprecedented' winter was defeating this Dirtbag, for sure.

That said, winter offers some damn beautiful views🗻 This is the daunting Mt. Hood in northwest Oregon. We stayed in a dispersed camping spot with this view for two days before exploring the waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge.
..It was still cold 😐️ But I guess with a view like this it's hard to complain. (Not impossible, just hard 😆)

The West may have its beautiful rocky mountains and red rock views, but Pennsylvania has those deep greens you only find in the Great Appalachian Valley. Where streams and rivers abound, mushrooms sprout up amongst the moss, and the vibrant forest teems with life 🐿️ 🐺 🌲

Don't get me wrong, I love the West! But there's a different type of beauty on the East Coast you just can't find west of the Mississippi ⬅️

Where's your favorite spot to hike? Let me know in the comments 👇️ We might just make a road trip for it!

Apparently we are the human equivalent of “resting adventure face.”

Because yes, these are photos of us in some of the most beautiful, wild, ridiculous, alien‑infested places we’ve ever been… and also yes, we look like two people waiting for a bus that’s running late.

Don’t be fooled, though. Behind those very serious expressions are two extremely excited Dirtbags with Furbags who are absolutely thriving.
We climbed things! We explored caves! We met aliens! We took in breathtaking views!
And our faces said, “Hmm. Mildly interesting.”

But trust us — we were having the time of our lives.
We just save all our smiling for the dogs.
